every little does help mate, the way i look at it is if a hundred people give £10, we've enough to buy a "new" car. its amazing this club it really is.

sheilas view

sheila ( my beloved ) has asked if i can post her view .

she says if the truck is fixed , would i really trust it ?

if the truck is fixed is there anything else major that could go wrong ?

dont forget it still has a cracked windscreen

your car has to be reliable as the incident in ikley proved .. is this one ?

if you do get another car , someone you trust would have to examine it

This is why even i'm very very unsure about a fix. I can just see it now, we get new engine in, Pete goes of for a celebratory drive and the suspension drops off, or a driveshaft exits. i think if we could trust the car more yeah go for it but its been nowt but trouble from the absolute beginning.

I think we should all consider a new car, i know how it sounds, but its as good as a fix and at least with a new car, some of us can go look at it first on Petes behalf. I just think we should at least consider it and explore all the options.

see ware your coming from pete!

i see it as better the devil you now!

so get a engine put in yours as you have the gear box done!

you could buy another truck but at the money your going to spend you could buy trouble again!! unless you buy new:eek:

every thing wares out i bought mine and it needed a few quid spent on it after i got which i never new about,

just the joys of buying second hand you never know if the owner before has looked after it and loved it to keep it serviced.

I'm really sorry to be the harbinger of doom but I dont agree with repairing it.

Before I take some very heavy flack can I point out that I actively support charities and as a former staff rep (we're not allowed trade unions :augie ) I was known for bieng militant but going for the best for folks.

Lets be blunt, The car is a lemon, expensive to run on any account but this example is a potential financial black hole. You are throwing good money after bad. Just stop and have a think.

Its history is in definitely in doubt one way or another. No low mileage truck like that thats been serviced properly has premature gear box failure then big end failure. Its either a hidden high miler, an unmaintained thrash bucket or a plain simple good old fashioned BL style Monday morning build.

Two of its most significant units have screwed up altogether more may go wrong, you've got to ask:

  • What happens when the similarly poorly maintained brakes fail ?

  • What happens when the sunflower oil in the diff gives up?

  • What happens when the non waxoyled under belly corrodes (as a grey import it hasnt got anything approaching the level of under seal a uk spec car has)

The list is potentially endless and whilst not a problem at the mo i grant you could become so within the few years I presume briggie wants to keep and use it.

Normally I'd say give it a whirl. But as this car has already shown its true colours the evidence so far and Briggies circumstances preventing him diy ing it say its not really a viable option for him to keep and run a car like that with that history (or lack of it).

By all means everyone chip in but a far more rational approach in my opinion (and that's all it is) would be take a step back, work out the best way to dispose of this shed and then consider where funds raised all round will be spent.

Dont get me wrong, I donated last time and would again, not worried about that.............but I don't like seeing anyone's money wasted.:nenau

i will go with whatever the club as a collective decide .... cos i love you guys ( and guyesses ) :thumb2

Dave, as ever, I totally agree.

Well as I understand it the Mistral has a new mot and all things except the engine work well and are known because Briggies been a driving it:D
The other bits you mention Clivvy can fail on any car any time. Windscreen..........big deal, Briggie can fix it on his own insurance anytime.
I also assume that the mistral at least had a cursory look over by the garage when the box was done.
"Trust" is a wierd condition to apply to a car :doh
I'm only interested in a relatively cheap fix. If there's an engine out there that someone knows is good and costs less than 300 squid I'd like to see it.
This ebay motor can be given a good thrashing to check out the engine performance and then driven on a one day insurance policy to the garage. About an hour and quarter away.
The remains of the car can be sold off and the money put back into a club kitty for er, er, come back to that :sly

I agree to a certain extent but a £300 engine plus £400 fitting  not cheap.

Yes bits can go on any car but this vehicle seems to have a penchant for catastrophic failures not old age niggling faults that us diyers can fix.

the isuzu looks ideal and is in leeds ... not very far,and is a very well constructed ad :thumb2
