Hi there!

I have a "M" reg ford maverick swb..

ive had the altanator refurbished and replaced the battery and still something is draining the power causing it not to start..when its jump started off another jeep it starts fine but no dash lights come on..give it a few revs and the dash lights come on and everything works as it should. but when driving at night the headlights after half hour go dim and the dash lights are constantly flickering bright and dim. ive checked the fused and all seem alright,i put a powerprobe on the altanator fuse under the bonnet and put a live through it and the dash lights then come on..so could it possibly be a relay?

any suggestions would be greatly appreciated

matt

check battery leads .... a known problem..... earthing strap too

Bad earth or the alternator hasn't been done properly :thumbs

What was the original fault for you to have a new alternator fitted just so we start from the beginning.

basically i was going up a lane..and as i was going up the dash lights were flickering and then going brighter than normal then flickering once again. i got to the top of the lane and turned the jeep off..went to turn it back on and nothing what so ever. so the next day i had the altanator refurbed with new brushes and put a fresh charged battery on and still nothing.

id go for battery leads /connections .... a known issue

This sound like an earth problem, you could try puting 1 jump lead from the neg on the battery to the alternator housing and see if this makes a difference, as i think that the alternator is not charging and the battery is not being drained by something stuck on.

I've only had a starter & alternator refurbed once NEVER AGAIN !

Just get new from Milners or 2nd hand from scrappy & make 1 out of 2 :thumbs

why did you recon the original alternator and change the battery?
was there the same problem as now?

what connects the alternator and battery ? ..... see my point ?..... a common link exists here .... easy to check

ive checked the wiring and the wiring seems fine,im thinking its a relay somewhere along the line,as i said i put a live from the powerprobe and the dashlights lit up

there's no drain its just not charging, and bad earth wont cause a drain.
