Wicked write up thanks rustic. I actually have a bottle of 5w30 castrol in the boot, thought this was the right oil? Although a top up has not been needed yet anyway..

So mabye ita better to pay someone on here who is handy rather than a garage who does not care.

To be fair, as a top up, it won't really matter, just adding a bit of 5w/30 it will have very little effect on the overall viscosity. half a litre in 7 litres... no big deal.

Better to use this, than risk oil starvation, by trying to get to the next services:thumbs

I'm pleased that you have stated your lack of knowledge and confidence in this area, as you are finding, people are even more willing to help you.

1, It is quite possible for leaking oil to get blown upwards, or sideways, or end up well away from the leak when subject to the slight vacuum & air flow caused by movement. I once had a Montego (still have nightmares about it) which only leaked when at motorway speeds, it was the very devil to trace as the oil traveled some distance before becoming visible.
2, try to get a 'bonded' type washer ie; one with a rubber seal on it's bore. as these will last indefinitely & never seem to leak.
3, using PTFE tape is a great temporary bodge as already suggested, will last if done right.
4, get a 3L as it's soooo much easier LOL (also as already suggested).
