It was all bit of a rush last night. Boyo and me both had time together to lift the diff in the hole and didn't leave us much pic faffing time. :augie
Day off today so the front end will get a strip down and new balls please , etc :D
Re-assembling is such fun especially with shiny new bits that have sat in boxes for ages :naughty

Enjoy mate!!! Oh and yeah you're not getting weak or old, those front diffs are very heavy and off balanced!!!! Do you not remember what happened to me?

I removed mine on some ramps on the floor at home on the drive and then couldn't get it back in on my own :doh Had to drive it to work the next day with the prop tied up under the car and the front diff in the back. Had to wait till after work to get it on the 4 poster in the garage and the lads had a laugh at me in there whilst admittedly helping me get it back in :lol But when it went back it, there was a LOKKA inside it :sly

It's been one of those days :doh
Had to work this morning to start with :eek: then eventually got to the truck about 3ish
Now then I thought I'd sussed the rear brake auto adjusters BUT no , the ruddy things had me in a state for ages. Just which way the spring goes was a memory challenge. So many fitting trials eventually got it :clap
So having got all involved I thought I might aswell do the whole damn thing properly (well as best I can anyway) Hubs off again and a nice bit of copper slip action just because :sly

Then back on with the hub assy and newly blue greased up brakes :thumbs

This was the wrong way round for the blasted spring by the way :lol

Then I found out that my new shocks are the wrong blasted size :confused:

So onto the front then . Full strip down and rebuild as it's the only part of the original broom, er, I mean truck :D
New ball joints going on, need a replacement drive shaft too . New shocks. Braided brake hoses etc etc

May even get the diff out tomorrow :naughty
 
Yes Pete those pesky springs go to the inside of the shoe but even then it is not enough to keep the adjuster arm from skipping over the cog, later models do work however as the set up is different, Rick

Got a good amount done today and failed to find anywhere else to weld :clap
There will be some customising welding to come but the truck can now reall be described as rot free :clap
Now here's a little shot especially for Rick . This is looking up under the front and taken as centrally as I could. Rick you will notice that both steering boxes' shaft centres ARE as near as damn it equal. :D So I conclude my design is in fact good to go as there is no change of radius or described arc of the idler :sly

Another point of interest for others after spares or whatever, the front prop shafts are different on petrol and diesel . For ref.

Got the old diff out at last. It was a bloody struggle compared to the petrol one :nenau Had to undo nearly everything. Didn't mind as it's all getting rebuilt anyway but I was surprised :eek:

Torsion bars out, rose joints out and bottom arm the only thing left . You can see my sexy zorst here too :naughty

Here's the side boob shot while I'm at it . Note the nice smoooth bend off the back of the turbo :cool:

There you go, all out and ready for some prep for paint :doh

Nothing to see here :beer:

Nice pics Pete, yes arms do look parallel, Interesting about the front prop length, wonder what makes the petrol shorter? or are the flange to flange measurements the same but a different shaft fitted cos they had loads, other than that I can only assume the engine/box configuration is a little different as otherwise it will effect the wheelbase, whatever the petrol shaft will fit either as it will expand that amount but the 2.7 will not go short enough for a petrol, bearing in mind the slider here only has to deal with engine mounting rubber movement and a very small amount of diff give, Rick
 
I can only think gearbox size but didn't stop to work it out :lol Both props are compressed there .

A bit later after a couple of hours of wire brush suicide I had this :D

I'm sure Alex was meant to be round to do the Hammerite but he no show :eek:

Bush brackets cleaned up and rust treated ready for tomorrow night :)
Even gave my nuts a good rubbing :naughty

More underbody cleaning up going on too but soooo tedious :(

not sure that the front prop length is entirely dictated by fuel type:...

I like to think of it more like Zaphod Beeblebrox said ; It's the weird colour scheme that freaks me. Every time you try to operate one of these weird black controls, which are labeled in black on a black background, a small black light lights up black to let you know you've done it. Hey, what is this, some kind of galactic hyper-hearse?

It's been a tough old week at work but still getting an hour or so done on the way home.
Turned the diff the other way up to paint all the bits I missed before. No matter which way I mounted it I just couldn't get it all done in one go :augie

I need to speed up this stage as the boy has just had 3 landrover bulkheads to rebuild :eek: Don't want the Black Pearl getting infected :lol

New work bench the boy is creating. I guess I'll be planking that out tomorrow then :D

Anyway back under the Pearl the clean up continues :eek:
Binned the old heat shield and found original Nissan paint :clap

Not too shabby here :thumbs

Rust treatment on the old welds but the grinder croaked , so it's back to screwfix for a new one in the morning :doh
