What would probably do it is a Crow foot bi-hex socket, but if I were you and seeing you have the socket, I would cut a slot with a grinder in the socket you have and hope the injector is not tight enough to open up the socket. Don’t take the injector to bits what ever you do. You should be able to remove the wires from the plug by pulling out the tab inside but no point in doing this if the socket won’t pas over the lower section.

ok, i had a feeling I might end up having to do that (grind out a gap). If I have chance, i'll give it a try, other wise its going to have to go into the garage. Do you reckon a garage would have the tools/capability??

i found this:

thanks for the response jermey!

ok, the giggle continues.

I have ground out a peice of the socket, so that will now fit onto the injector without damaging the wire clamp/wires.

lol, but typically I havent been forward thinking enough, and dont have a suitable socket to remove the fuel pipes!

So, with that in mind, does anyone know what specific type of socket I need to remove the pipes that fit onto the injector? A spanner fits, but I cant turn it without causing damage (its very stiff) so figure I need something very similar to the injector socket-with a window cut into it to allow for the pipes....

size seems to be approx 3/4 "??

Something like this....
You could always do a bit more grinding on a sacrificial ring spanner..:augie

Hmm, could try that! May need to buy a set, all I have is 3/4" as a measurement, not sure how accurate that is.

looks like your still having fun with that injector:( had a word with the fitter who dose the work on brothers lorry, he said you should not split the injector leave it in one peace!!! as for the spanner he said what you have done make your own :thumbs

nice one matey, good to hear I am on the right track!

guys, I am hoping to get this injector changed weekend, but when I had a look last weekend, I couldnt loosen the fuel pipes OFF the injector, know what I mean? A spanner doesnt fit properly, any tips for the removal of the fuel pipes??

Clivvy, I managed to slacken mine off with an open ended spanner (not good practice I know but it worked for me) The fuel pipe You mean is the one that links to the four injectors which is held on buy a large nut. I undone that one with a socket 17/19mm I think whilst I held the injector with the spanner! You will need to remove that nut from the second injector to be able to lift the link pipe off No1 injector to get it out. Not a nice job to do with the pipework involved. Go steady with the pipes. Tony.

Ah right, so I can look forward to more awkwardness from the maverick then!! Thanks for the advice, I'll give it a shot and be very careful!!

For chuffs sake, can't anything be simple? Just spent best part of an hour just loosening the first two fuel pipes and nuts the hold the connecting pipes on. Turns out I have to remove all 4 fuel pipes and nuts, do that I can remove the connecting pipes, because it's all one unit. Flipping flip. I ain't the strongest of men, so it's been hard. I soaked the last two injectors in wd40, so hopefully that will help. I am enjoying this, but at the same time I feel I am seriously missing out on all the fun, I find it hard to imagine what one of these trucks are like when they are working, I just hope I can get to that stage quickly!!

well, I got HALF the old injector out. :(

had to go to Halfords to buy yet another 22mm bi-hex socket, but I simply cannot budge the bottom half of the old injector, its stuck solid, any tips/tricks guys please??

why did you need another socket clive?, did you use a long bar with the socket? do you know anyone with a 24" sway bar/ knuckle bar to loosen the injector, :nenau

Please pardon the expression but I've got a long bar:naughty one of those 24inch with the knuckle and half inch drive:clap Just ask Clivvy.

Jim

Ok, let me explain. The injector us jammed in, so what's happened is I have taken the top half of the old injector off, so that I can use a normal 22mm socket (so that I don't break my modified windowed socket, see??) only it's jammed! I haven't got a sway bar or any thing, I will try that today. No way can I heat it up, not unless I want blow myself up, there's still fuel spillage.

OK

I cant believe it, i DID it. I managed to change the No1 injector.

the extension bar was the key, so thanks very much for this suggestion.

I did take some pics to catalogue the process, they arent brill, but may be useful, will post if ever required, but I am happy to take the intercooler off again, and catalogue the whole process as a guide.

I managed to get the lower half of the injector out after buying the correct 22mm bi-hex standard socket, plus 1/2" converter PLUS the 24" bar. Injector was welded in. One thing I noticed, the old injector sensor wire was facing "inwards", when I fitted the new one, it was facing "outwards". I am not concerned, because I was VERY careful when screweing it back in, did it by hand first to ensure I wasnt de threading, then nipped it up with my modified socket. I have run the car, at idle, for about 20 mins, no leaks. will get a run out this afternoon.

:thumbs

as for the difference, well, even at idle, its different...much different. seems more positive, when revving past 4k rpm its very clean, whereas before there was a bit of shudder. I havent done the codes yet, need to take it for a drive to get operating temp...

Clivvy if you want to do a joint effort I'll help make it into a workshop pdf so Bat can add it to the library.

Jim

Good idea jim, let's do that. I'll take my intercooler off again and take mire pics. Not going to take the fuel rail off again though, well have use words and arrows!!
