Well Ive been thinking with all our members there must be some of you that would like to find out if there are any green lanes around where you live, and wondering how to go about finding them.
If you need help with map reading and understanding the map markings
indicating the lane types printed below .
JUST ASK THATS WHAT I DID.
There are maps on line from multi map, street map
once you have found them you can do a google search and find out the history of many of them.
Remember a lot of these lanes were the motorways of yesteryear.
unloved, forgotten,,, lost.
There are BYWAYS. aka b.o.a.t.s (Byways open to all traffic)
There are U.C.R ...(unclassified roads)
There are O.R.P.A ...(other route public access)
.................................................
These are the green lanes we are legally allowed to drive .
...........................................................................
Unless there is a T.R.O. ..(temp restriction order )
placed by the highways dept for various reasons like erosion /damage ,
...........................................................................
One other type of lane called a R.U.P.P......(road used as public path)
Was lost to us due to government legislation.called the NERC bill.
so Rupp's were re classified and aether up graded to BYWAY statius
or down graded and re named ( RESTRICTED BYWAY ).
..........................................................................
Which cannot be driven by motorised transport,
other than by farmer etc to reach his land .
ITS up to you to find out what lanes you can/cannot drive .
you contact your county council they have whats known as the
"DEFINITIVE MAP " and up to date info.
Also some libraries keep a copy of the Definitive map.
