So for a while now I have been getting a weird noise on occasion in reverse, only in mud or on a hill, can reverse hard on Tarmac and no noise is present but reversing in 2wd in mud get a dug dug dug noise, seems to be from passenger side more.. :nenau

Me and jake today took a hammer to the sills and arches big time, we really hammered it back!!! Also cut my thumb to pieces in the process :(

I have a few things lined up in my possibility list

1) wheels catching on plastic arches perhaps? The hammering doesn't seem to have changed the behavior of the noise and also on articulation we could not see rubbing...? But suspect maybe the inner of the plastic arches are catching?

2) possibly a cv joint but doesn't do it going forwards and 2wd shouldn't make the noise either... And doesn't seem like previous cv symptom...

3) my exhaust which is not secured  the flexi has been breaking for a while, suspect it may be somehow bouncing/knocking but weird only on reverse on slope or mud ect.. :nenau

Any other things to check chaps? :thumb2

Here is a video from inside, seems to be much more apparent in 2wd, and nearside only last night

Nearside front knocking reverse only!!: http://youtu.be/BgOrBRWkroQ

I think on that video it's about the 3rd reverse, not very loud either...

All I can hear is your loose change jangling around :lol:lol

If it's the wheel arch, you should hear it going forward too :nenau

Unless it's a crap video Alex, it don't sound to bad to me mate....have you checked your man steps aren't a bit loose :augie:augie

Unless of course you have play in your rear suspension bushes... You might find the play allows the rear axle to float front to back, or the panhard rod bushes, then either the noise is the bush, metal to metal contact, or the tyre moves further back and catches something.

The fact it is ok on tarmac, ie constant friction, compared to mud, which allows some slip, supports my theory.:augie

this noise isn't you talking to yourself is it?

My exhaust was banging on the cross member just behind the flexi, only in reverse when the engine tilts with the torque.

Yup, whilst still work today I found the metal clamp above the front flexi is pretty shoddy. It wiggles right about...

How short can the exhaust go??:sly

I though we covered this.. ie the exit of the exhaust should clear the bodywork, so no fumes enter the cab.
But your truck Alex would look great with a vertical exhaust and silencer coming up through the bonnet.:thumb2 Like a tractor.
You could have one of those gravity flaps on it, to keep the rain out lol...

Oh no  Don't tell him that (look out Rick, Alex is about to book a visit!!!

Hey now we're talking  :naughty

I will be keeping the side exit exhaust but possibly cutting before the flexi thus rendering it useless as my flexi is also shot.

This would make the exhaust a solid state item but I see no need for any flex unless there is one further up? :nenau

LSD engagement

If its the exhaust fine but some LSD units make noise when they engage.
