Ok, I bought my car with one fault and it seems to be very common. I've done some research but before I start ripping bits off and spending out; thought I'd ask on here.

Got a 3 litre auto Y61, when either full boost or under pressure the car loses all power and hits a wall at the speed I'm doing. It reminds me of the speed limiter on my van. You have to take your foot off the accelerator and re apply to get the power back. I've read this appears to be a boost spike and a safety precaution. The car is standard with no 'grenade proof' modifications yet.

From reading, it appears it can be that the spikes need regulating, throttle position sensor or MAF (this has been changed by a previous owner). I was thinking of changing the throttle position sensor next but am after a bit of guidence.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you

I'm sure there will some help along shortly.
I have read that if the egr had been blanked it over boosts which causes problems.
That's all I have though :nenau

Thanks mate, I know it's not been blocked though so that's one thing to rule off. Worth putting in the post though for others. Thanks :thumbs

Before I got to it in your first I was going to suggest TPS first. So that would be my first try... Egr could be blocked as already suggested, it is something that happens, dependant on mileage.

Sounds like it's not getting more fuel when you are telling it to, has fuel filter and air filter been changed recently.. Still think TPS has something to do with it

Welcome mate, sorry I cannot help much on the 3ltr other than what I found on harlowmavericks motor when I had it in,(thread on here) but the inlet manifold is weired to say the least so I would be having that off for a good clean, Rick

Wait for Barrbeast to turn up, he'll know :naughty

Cheers Banshee, no pressure! :eek::p

Welcome to the Trol club by the way bud :thumbs

Basically, something is making your Trol overboost as that's your overboost protection kicking in. Often the cause is mods related (especially blanking the EGR) but if she's still standard I'd be having a look at the throttle body as it can get gummed up and it's not far from the EGR gubbins so may be a culprit or at least not helping :nenau

Essentially though the two options to stop overboost are A) fit a dawes and needle valves or B) wind out the actuator stop on the VNT turbo.

I chose to just wind out the stop on the actuator when I blanked my EGR and have had no issues, performance or otherwise, since. Have a look at my project thread as I'm sure it's covered there.

PS. This is my Trol :D

On auto, TPS first then throttle body clean out.
If running as stock I would look at these first if going into limp mode.
Welcome aboard!

Thanks guys, some brill advice there so that's tomorrow sorted! Looking forward to getting it fixed as it's really bugging me knowing it's there.

Sweet Patrol Barrbeast!!

Just a little update.

Took the pedal box off today and cleaned the tps with electrical cleaner plus all the connectors.

Took the intercooler off and the throttle body and cleaned it plus all the pipe work and electrical contact cleaned the plugs.

Took the afm off and cleaned everything with electrical cleaner and removed the sensor and cleaned the vents on the filter as they were all oily.

Taken it for an hour run and she drives perfect so looks like something here has done the trick!

Thanks for all the suggestions and big thanks to Barrbeast for his walk through on his project thread!

Need a new air filter now and I'm investigating a squeak under the car which I think could be the stabaliser link is shagged. Watch this space for a new thread!:doh :doh

Pic attached of my nice clean throttle body!

Great stuff. Glad it's sorted. Mines overdue for a clean out.

did you check further into the manifold? it is a strange system and it gets right gunkey in there, Rick

I cleaned it as best I could. Obviously not dropping anything in there I was pretty much clawing off the old muck and crap. It's horrendous how dirty it gets! One good thing is it appears I have a new intercooler which is good so obviously the old one must have leaked and he replaced it. One less thing to worry about! :thumb2
