amp live route

Where's the best place to feed a live through to the cab? Thought I would up grade the ice. Picked up a nice Kenwood KDC-PSW9531. Which would of cost a grand in 2005 and was to of the range for only 20 quid today.

You have 3 options getting an amp power cable through the bulkhead, there is the big main wiring loom grommet but you have to be very careful you don't damage any of the wires when making a hole for the cable but there are also 2 blank grommets to the right of the loom one which I used one for mine:thumbs A lot comes down to the size power cable you use mine is only 8 gauge so went through fine but 4 gauge (heavier duty) might fit through the same grommet. If you want can take a pic of mine if that will help of & the big inline fuse must be within the first 30cm from the battery terminal:thumbs Running the power feed & amp turn on cable down the drivers side & the phono cable/s down the passenger side is the best option just don't run the phono lead near the power or you'll end up with interference. Not sure if you've set up amp gains before, the gain knob isn't a loudness knob it's to match the stereo signal output to the amp if you turn it to far you'll send a clipped signal to the speaker & over time the cipped signal will kill your speakers:doh can send yoou some good links on how to set the amp up using a multi meter it's not perfect but will get you very close

That would be great. I've usually kept the gain at half way. Also a pic of the gromits :thumbs:thumbs

Yup, I have 4 gauge through the rubber grommet, there is bigger too! :sly

I too have 4 gauge through rubber gromet, just remember keep the rca lead running on the opposite side, seen so many people run the power and rca together and get issues

I've never had any problems running the cables together and that with 5 installs over the last year

Took my cable in via the left grommet above the main wiring loom one but there is one to the right which you can just see

And a pic of the cable from main fuse to bulkhead over braided the cable to give it some protection

I ended up using the gromit to the right, luckily it had all ready been peirced. I just cant undo the bloody doorstep covers as the little plastic screws just spin.:nenau

Oh it's great fun when that happens:doh have managed to get them out with a small thin screwdriver pushed down under the screw head & gently pry up while unscrewing it with another screw driver

Use a very thin flat blade screwdriver under the head of the plastic 'screw', then unscrew. The outer part of this two piece fixing fits through the cover and into the square in the metal, then the 'screw' is fitted or it just might push in.

PITA though :lol

I run 0 gauge through the grommet in the bulkhead, like said just be careful when piercing the hole.
