Well went to start my car up this morning and it won't start.

Key seems to work fine, Like normal. Glow plug light comes on and then they go off with the normal click.

Then when I try to go to the next stage of turning the engine over all I get is a click under the engine area.

Batteries are fine, I did go in some water sat but wasn't that deep. Also had a hard frost last night.

battery terminals.
they snap, theres enough to make every thing work, but not enought to start.
see downloads,

or earths on engin and starter..

best gues sat in my work office :)

As above & hit ya Solenoid on top of ya starter :thumbs

tried hitting the solenoid and starter still the same, Also battery clamps look fine.

Will investigate earths.

try the S L O W key turn.

maybe duff ign. switch contacts

we have lift off!

Did it slowly a few times and it turned over but seemed like main battery was dead. So linked the batteries with my split charge system and it fired up.

I did try linking them but didn't help before.

Think its the cold thats the problem, Maybe in the ingnition switch.

Starting

Having starting probs with mine as well .New glowplugs tomorrow.

When you turn the key do the ignition lights go out or dim appreciably? If so could be your battery or a short/bad earth somewhere (water ?)Leave the door open and if the overhead light goes out when you turn the key it is probably the battery.Give it a charge or try a jump start and see what happens.Good luck :thumb2

4wheel, have a look at you battery terminals, if you got the Nissan ones fitted that can snap.

Just need to get the ignition switch backplate from the dealers, its not that expensive, then remove the shroud and fit.

Could have been aggrevated by some wet/damp and cold but sounds like its past its sell-by date anyway. :thumb2

Fez, all that water we went through does get in the starter too:augie
Freezing cold night yesterday, my truck was frozen solid. The brakes were frozen up at the back:eek:
I've got your bash plate too:thumbs

On my phone :D
Been out all day yesterday too, so had no time to upload the stuff.
Later Zippy:thumbs

thats what I was thinking pete. Hopefully I havn't damaged it turning it over. It's in a tight spot to replace.

I will see what it's like over a couple of days as it's not as cold.

I posted some pics, But we didn't really stop much. except to check the map. :D

lacroupade is that tip for me or 4wheel?

Happened again today luckily I am off work this week anyway so no worry but want to get it sorted. I don't want it to fail when I need it most.

Any idea what the part number is paul? And is there anywhere else I can get a new one from as my nearest nissan dealer is 50 miles away.

Going to have to check battery, Starter and the ignition switch backplate.

No idea Fez but its a Nissan/Ford dealer you're going to need if it is the backplate. Simple job once you get the bit. I wouldn't normally recommend using a scrapper for this but given your geography if you can get one online somewhere for a few quid and give it a good clean up...?

I am assuming it wants to start when you turn the key dead slow then?

I have a ford dealer locally so I will try them, But I can't see them being much good.

It does not want to start even slowly (now). Maybe last time it was coincidence it start before. It did it at work monday but did it slowly and it worked.

I'm thinking maybe starter then, As something clicks in the engine area.

No the click is classic of the same problem Fez.

Ford should be able to order the bit in for you, but might be a bit pricier. It was in the £30-40 range as I recall from Nissan.

As its fukd, why not whip the old one off (i) to check it, (ii) so you know what you're looking for, and (iii) you might be able to clean enough shite off it to get it going temporarily.
