Abs query

im still getting abs cut in when i dont think it should ie dry weather low speed gentle braking.so today i have pulled the abs fuse.but before i did i turned on ign and noticed no abs checklight. i thought there would be one.

I'm 99% certain I dont get a check light when I turn the key, also dont get any warning lights with the fuse removed... I 'think' it only flashes when your ABS is 'in action' so to speak! :thumb2

should be one tested for mot.
Test Description


Brake efficiency and balace is usually checked on a roller brake tester. In certain cases where a roller brake tester may not be used (for example on certain 4-wheel drive vehicles) it may be necessary to check brake efficiency and balance on a road test, with a portable decelerometer.

only joking, anyway, I always thought the ABS light was on with IGN as the system has to check ABS is functioning, the light goes off when started, and re appears when ABS is active. Thast how it is on my other two Mazdas, and im fairly sure its the same on other cars, but lets face it, not all cars are the same!:thumbs

lol. yes if i could get behind dash i may find the fault.i know wheel bearings can upset abs,dodgy wire on a sensor.just too frikin cold to crawl under motor. i got the motor cheap so have to expect some niggles.

I had a similar issue with a Merc I used to own and the ABS would trip almost daily in particularly at low speeds for no obvious reason.

I traced the fault to corrosion on the reluctor rings on the front hubs where the ABS sensors are fitted.

You might just have a faulty sensor but if your vehicle is high mileage or over 5 years old a common cause is corrosion on the reluctor rings. They are a slotted ring either on the hub or if its like my old 4 WD Merc they are a part of the front driveshaft.

If you remove an ABS sensor and shine a torch into the hole you will see the reluctor ring. It looks like a ring gear. If they look crusty with rust that will be the cause it sends a false signal to the ABS sensors. Pretty sure most ABS systems are very similar in concept.

The ABS light should definitely come on briefly when you turn the ignition on.

It also lights up (i) when the ABS is operating, and (ii) when a sensor fails.

Cheers for that will shine a light up me ring tomorrow.bet someones pulled a bulb out the dash.
will give the old girl a going over at the weekend.took fuse out gave it a good hard drive nothing.dont half shift very quick acceleration on a par with my d22 navara i once owned.

this will be the noise the mrs heard.ABS with EBD has self-test capabilities. The ABS warning lamp is illuminated for 1 second each time the
ignition switch is turned “ON”. After the engine is started, the ABS warning lamp turns off. An ABS self-test
is performed the first time the vehicle reaches 6 km/h (4 MPH) to ensure the system is operational. A
mechanical noise may be heard as the ABS performs this self-test and is a normal part of the self-test
feature. If a malfunction is detected during this check, the ABS warning lamp will stay on.
During the self-test, it also performs a EBD check when it detects a failure the ABS warning light will go
on simultaneously with the brake warning light and an audible sound will sound constantly.
I EBD system will only operate when the ABS is not in active status and it uses the inlet valves of ABS control
unit to limit the pressure to the rear wheels when they tend to go into slip.
I When the vehicle speed is less than 10 km/h (6 MPH) the ABS system does not operate.
I While driving, a mechanical noise may be heard during ABS operation, this is a normal system condition.
