Hi

Does anyone know how many hours Sutherlands gives for a gearbox removal/replacement please?

I'm (hopefully) picking up my Patrol tomorrow - I need to be armed with information so I can haggle/agree with the bill.

Thanks

Sutherlands

Is, at least I think it is, the definitive repair manual used by most garages. When you ask for a quote, that is the book they look in to see how long the job should take. So they quoted you 4 out and 4 in? Yours is an auto isn't it? Wonder if that makes a difference? Yours has a torque converter and mine has a clutch, probably about the same I suppose, except I would have thought the tc would be heavier than a clutch (although I don't know why I think that).

maybe r+r meant rest and relaxation in that quote lol , seriously i think some garages extract the urine a little with some quotes .,but if they done a good job and you are happy ... must be worth it huh ?

my car

Don't know if they've done a good job - I STILL haven't got the car back, despite them having it for five weeks, sitting on it for a week and generally dragging their feet.

I went there this evening to see what was going on and to remind him that I pull off this site tomorrow without fail by 12pm.

He tried to blame it on me! He got a bit shirty when I calmly kept repeating that he had had the parts for a whole week and he should not have left it until the last minute.

Are there any decent mechanics out there?

My patrol

Yes, you're right of course.

I'm going to sleep now, good night.

Never heard of Sutherlands - they make Beef Spread etc surely.

Autodata is the book or CD everyone I know refers to - can't help you with the data now though I'm afraid.

My Patrol - RANT - sorry

Wierd, must've imagined it (the book) - I know Sutherland's do a Bicycle Manual, I thought they did a car manual too.

Wonder if I'll get my car back today. I wonder what it is about me that makes mechanics think they can take the p1ss out of me. Is it because I am a woman, because I am old(ish) or because I try to be pleasant and friendly? I think I will ask.

I have to say that I am astonished, in this time of redundancies, repossession and business failing, that mechanics have such a bad attitude and give such poor customer service. Five weeks ago I gave him 27 March as the deadline BEFORE 27 March I said, I am pulling off on 27 March, I need my car on 27 March. I thought I was being unequivocal. Obviously not as it is now 27 March and my car is still in pieces in the garage.

I am on a five year mission to rebuild and restore the car, and was prepared to give most of the work to this man. I won't be doing that now. I guess he must already have enough customers.

The best part is when they have told me a day the car will be ready, and when that time has passed and I ring to see what's going on, they say "Oh no, there's a problem, it won't be ready until...". I have asked them three times to LET ME KNOW if there's a problem, but do they? No they don't. They sit on it until I call them.

I have four bicycles that used to go to a bike shop for repair but I got the same crappy service and bad attitude so now I mail order all the parts and fix my bikes myself.

I only wish I could fix my own car! But I just haven't got the tools or space - and I'm not strong enough.

Rant over. Sorry.
