I recently topped up all the oils on my diff and gearbox.
Next to the sensors, to the right I removed a bolt. I realised this was not a filler as there was a spring behind it.
When re fitting the bolt I found I could wind it all the way in and it would not tighten. The threads are worn. There had been what looked like thread seal on the bolt.
I cannot replace the bolt with the spring in place. Can anyone tell me what it is for? I have removed the spring and managed to replace the bolt with lots of PTFE tape for now.

Looking at the reverse sensor it's just to the right.
Should I replace the bolt with a slightly over size and tap a new thread. Get someone to put a helicoil I and use the same bolt?
Thank you

I would download the workshop manual and check it out before moving the motor, that Spring is there for a reason.
I may have the manual so pm me you email addy and I will send it over.

Now fixed

Thank you for the advise. Checking the bolt was about 12 / 15 mm long.
Looking at the thread on a ramp, the thread was ok further in. I managed to get a bolt that would fit the thread. The bolt was part hollow so I extended this so the spring was the same length with the new bolt. All back in place now and no oil leak on the box.
