    Two tone. Like it!

    Wipers on

Interesting. I've just had the wipers turn to on when they were on intermittent, and they refused to turn off. Moving to fast then off usually turns them off. Rear wiper only sometimes works in the intermittent position so the combination made me assume stalk/switch. Perhaps I need to thump things!

    Dollywobbler's Maverick

As it happens, I found the Maverick plenty flexible when off-roading the other day. It got through sections where others struggled, though not to big myself up too much, I think I'm pretty sensible behind the wheel - it's all about line and, where needed, a bit of momentum. I'm very pleased...

    Nant-y-Moch Feb 2012

Well, whatever your views, nothing seemed to stop the Range Rover behind me either! Two very different, but very capable machines it seems.

    Nant-y-Moch Feb 2012

Went around Nant-y-Moch today with some West Wales Laning chums. It can be quite a gentle trek around there, but we had some good adventures today. I was amazingly impressed with my Mav. It handled everything thrown at it, including headlamp-level water, axle twisting ruts and some slippery wet...

    Average Speed Cameras

Indeed! It's an entirely optional revenue. Find it hilarious when people refer to it as a stealth tax. Most taxes aren't so optional! Do I drive everywhere like grandma? No. I just drive underpowered cars that can be a lot of fun at the speed limit.

The First Car you ever owned...

My first car was a Ford Fiesta Mk2 Popular, similar to this Popular Plus but more battered and even more povo spec! I've owned over 40 cars since then (in 17 years) but have not owned another Ford until I got my Maverick last month. So, two Fords owned, both Spanish!

    Petrol - reluctant to rev

Got the new fuel filter fitted. Almost broke the holder trying to get the retaining bolt out. Suggests it'd been there a while... Engine now pulls much more cleanly and can actually pull beyond 3000rpm on the road without misfiring!

    Dollywobbler's Maverick

I shall consider it. Filled up today. First tank has come in at 22mpg, which includes playing in the snow, a brief off-highway foray and a fair bit of tinkering with the engine running. A little lower than I was hoping for but not far off.

    Dollywobbler's Maverick

Ah, I imagine that makes a BIG difference. What does it do to the handling? I guess softening up the rear might actually make it less likely to snap into oversteer?

    Dollywobbler's Maverick

Decided to test both truck and my back with a spot of laning. I know a fairly gentle lane in Nant-y-Moch so had a quick explore. Initial conclusions are that it's pretty capable really, though it struggled in some places due to the lack of axle articulation. A bit of momentum compensated...

    Petrol - reluctant to rev

Thanks Solarman. Given how neglected this truck seems to have been when it comes to servicing, the fuel filter is a decent bet. I've seen it while under the truck - that silver cannister I presume?

    Petrol - reluctant to rev

Opened it and put it back. There's no way the tank would create a vacuum sufficient to affect fuel delivery instantly though.

    New!

Howdy. I can see why you went diesel. I had a LR 90 V8 briefly last year. 15mpg! Great noise though...

    Petrol - reluctant to rev

My Maverick petrol 2.4 seems reluctant to rev. Going uphill, it seems to run out of steam and will misfire a bit. It feels like a fuel starvation issue rather than anything else. Any ideas? It pulls fine with light throttle, but there's no go with the pedal mashed down. Well, it will go, but...

    Dollywobbler's Maverick

Finally got the job finished, with a fairly large amount of pain! My back is not happy. However, my Maverick now stops properly. Pedal is still quite soft. Is that how they are or do I need another bleeding session? Stops well enough, though I've only clocked up about 30 miles so far, so haven't...

snow's here and the 4x4 is dicking about !!!

Slush isn't really enough to warrant the 4x4, as it won't allow enough slip most of the time. What I found with mine is that the steering felt very different in 2WD or 4WD with the hubs locked in. A quick reverse (with a quiet but audible clonk) and it felt grand again.

    Dollywobbler's Maverick

Sadly, I put my back out when working on the Mav yesterday, so today has seen no progress. The other caliper has arrived now, but still awaiting the new sliders and boots, so not like I could have got it finished today anyway. Also, the water on our Mini's roof was still frozen at 2:30pm, so...

    Dollywobbler's Maverick

Aye, I don't begrudge it too much, just a bit miffed that the Citroen BX I dragged out of a garage (where it had sat for three years) has had no brake problems at all! Mind you, I think that was looked after slightly better than this Maverick has been...
