    Overboost problem, 2005 Patrol

I think it happens at around 2500-2800rpm under load. * Driving up a steepish hill in 3rd can cause it. * Accelerating hard from the Haslingden turn-off in 4th and 5th uphill onto the M66 to overtake slow moving traffic has caused it. * Blitzing up the M62 to the Saddleworth turnoff...

    Overboost problem, 2005 Patrol

Jocky, That is VERY helpful. Just as soon as I've got the gauge fitted, I'm going to try out the testing regime for turbo spool up speed. One thing I cannot understand, is how the 'Troll has managed to do 40,000 odd trouble-free miles if the VNT calibration needs adjustment. Something must...

    Overboost problem, 2005 Patrol

A minor move forward on this overboosting problem ...... I have now bought, but haven't yet fitted a boost pressure sensor. One of the natty electronic stepper motor ones. I'm still trying to suss out the least problematic way of installing it. As the sun came out today, I decided to...

tips for the perfect rice pudding!

Yeah, but I already have two pressure cookers. One at home & one in the caravan. Especially for the caravan - very useful. Actually, come to think of it, the last time I had rice pudding (cannot remember when that was), I'm pretty sure it was Ambrosia. :lol Andrew

tips for the perfect rice pudding!

Get yourself a pressure cooker. Chuck in rice and lots of milk. Bring up to pressure, steam for a while & then take off heat & mix in sugar. It tastes exactly like Ambrosia out of a tin.

    Fitting a boost gauge - ZD30

I did think about doing that, but in the end decided that I want to engineer a reversible solution. I've bought a piece of 6mm thick aluminium bar & have cut/drilled/filed it into the same shape as the base of the boost sensor. The idea is fit a 1/8 BSPT brass hosetail to a tapped hole in...

    cool caravan!

We usually use the site showers when we are away, but have used the caravan shower (Burstner S500TS) without problem if the site showers are not so good. It works fine. The caravan is nice and warm - shower blocks rarely are in winter. We've no qualms at all about using the van shower. The...

    Fitting a boost gauge - ZD30

I am trying to solve an overboost problem (sudden power loss, 0905 ECU error). There are two options - a) The CAP itself is faulty and there is no real excessive boost pressure b) There is excessive boost pressure and I need to start saving up for a new turbo (or EGR valve or whatever). I...

    Fitting a boost gauge - ZD30

Has anyone fitted a turbo pressure boost gauge to a ZD30 in either a Patrol, Navara or Terrano? If you have: * What gauge did you buy & where did you get it? Is it OK? * How did you connect the pipe from the gauge? Did you connect the pipe between turbo & intercooler or somewhere else? Did...

    Diesel engine specialists

Dunno, I could go and look. Have you used them? I've just come across one called Hi Tech Diesel Ltd in Bury - website looks good. They claim to fault find and have a rolling road, so they'd be able to replicate the fault without having to drive up & down the motorway. Has anyone used Hi...

    Diesel engine specialists

I'm looking for a top notch diesel engine specialist to diagnose an engine fault on my Patrol (related to overboosting - see other thread on this). I know about Diesel Bob's in Ribchester. Has anyone got any experience of them (good or bad) or of any other diesel engine specialist within...

    Why did you get one???

Not really, just that Isuzu didn't sell enough in the UK for it to be economic for Isuzu UK to continue importing them. Worldwide, though, the injector problem probably did kill the Trooper. The injectors were designed by Caterpiller who eventually admitted liability. As you may know, there...

    Tow hitch height?

The EC Directive 94/20/EC states that the towball height should be between 350 and 420mm with the vehicle in the ‘laden’ condition (to the towball centre). Laden condition may have been defined (by the manufacturer) as either fully laden (the maximum technically permitted mass of the vehicle as...

    Why did you get one???

Did you forget the Patrol, Xtrail and others? I had an Isuzu Trooper from 2000 to 2007 and did well over 100,000 miles in it. It was a great motor, brilliant towcar and very reliable. If Isuzu had not stopped making the Trooper in June 2003 (last UK Troopers are 2002, irrespective of how...

    Overboost problem, 2005 Patrol

Yes, it makes sense - but I doubt that is happening (though I may be wrong) and think there may really be an overboost condition (as distinct from a phantom one resulting from a faulty sensor). My money now is on something else being faulty. I just don't understand enough about how it works...
