    Viz motoring tips

Put a stop to car thieves by siphoning off all your petrol whenever you park your car, and carrying it round with you in one or two plastic buckets. D. Griffiths, Kent. Save time when crossing a one-way street by only looking in the direction of oncoming traffic. D. Rogers, Hemel Hempstead...

Have you tried these guys? http://www.4x4gearboxes.co.uk/index.htm I know nothing about them, found them on Google, but they're fairly local to you - Halifax. Ian

    AA breakdown repair cover

I believe you can get it repaired at a registered garage of your choice. Probably tricky to shop around too much if you're broken down & the AA man wants to know where to take you.

    V. quiet here...

I'm surprised as to how quiet it is here, on the Peak District board. I've been playing with Wayfinder & Trailwise, even within a 3km circle of my front door I have a lot of lanes to try :D Since getting the TII I have tried a couple... <i>('Just nipping out for a paper/pint of milk & to fill...

    AA breakdown repair cover

Yup, that is the case. Doesn't have to be a main dealer though, any VAT registered garage.

Pete, Give Nationwide autos a bell (www.nationwideautocentres.co.uk). My wife has dropped a car in with them before (a VW Beetle, auto too) with an intermitant problem. They had it for a day (twice), tested it couldn't find anything to fix & didn't charge her for the diagnostics or time...

    AA breakdown repair cover

Clivvy, it only costs a couple more quid for an old car (ie 10yo &/or 100k miles+). Makes no difference to the cost if multi-car, I've included 3. Whether it's worthwhile or not... I guess time will tell!

Hi Pete. Did your mechanic have any other ideas or suggestions apart from changing the AT fluid? There are garages that specialise in auto-boxes & might have a few further ideas. Some cars, Mercs, Jags etc & many imports are more commonly auto than manual & guys that work mostly on those might...

    AA breakdown repair cover

I keep the receipts for bulbs! Hopefully not..... I think the E Class will soldier on for many more miles with minimal problems, the TII seems a little more temperamental.

    AA breakdown repair cover

Anyone any experience of this? http://www.theaa.com/breakdownrepaircover/index.html They'll supposedly pay up to £500, with a £25 excess up to 5 times a year for parts & labour. I added it (multi-car) to my normal AA Roadside/Relay cover last month and decided yesterday to add the Homestart...

God this truck is proving to be a nightmare :(

I'm getting close to that...... Trouble is it's great when running ok, has really impressed me on the green lanes I've tried. I just want it sorted. Was supposed to be cheap reliable fun & save me putting too many private miles on the car I use for work.

Commiserations :( I'm also in the process of trying to sort out hidden gremlins in a car I bought privately via autrader a couple of weeks or so back. It also looked good & drove well on 2 long test drives......... I have moments of feeling pissed off but I guess "these things are sent to try...

God this truck is proving to be a nightmare :(

Just reversed it off the (steep) drive (put it into reverse but by gravity really) & it stalled as I changed to 1st & tried to pull away. Restarted & it pulled off then died again. Appears that when started it revs ok, then refuses to rev past about 1k revs :( It was fine yesterday..... I know...

    No sound from speakers

Ahhhh! The traditional fix for any audible mechanical problem!! I know someone who once drove back from his hols in Spain with a (company car) Laguna, using that technique.... It was found to be majorly lacking oil & the chap concerned nearly got a 'gross misconduct' dismissal. He was saved by...

    Glass? Crag?

Sounds like good advice, might just do that if I'm around when they meet. Otherwise I'll make my decision over the next couple of weeks or so based upon what I hear. Ian

    Glass? Crag?

So far, it looks like GLASS is the winner. I'm slightly surprised. If CRAG is a more recent alternative, I'd have expected them to be really on the ball with regards to communication, material, publishing etc etc. At first glance I thought they looked preferable, I figured the 'access rights...
