Just reversed it off the (steep) drive (put it into reverse but by gravity really) & it stalled as I changed to 1st & tried to pull away. Restarted & it pulled off then died again. Appears that when started it revs ok, then refuses to rev past about 1k revs :(
It was fine yesterday.....

I know that the waterpump needs changing..... was about to go to the motorfactors & order one, but this must be yet another problem (?). Is the ecu clever enough to detect it's low on coolant & go into 'limp' mode or something?

Aaaarrgghhh.... I'm starting to wish I'd never clapped eyes on this bloody car!

Help!

Had bad leak from water pump on my T2 for a while. Never caused it to stall though even when water had been very low and temperature gauge got high. Sure there will be some of the other members along soon who can advise as to what might be going on with your truck.

blimey mate, didnt realise you were having so much hardship with the car?

as for stalling...hmm...could be something loose, the reverse manoeuvre has finally knocked something off perhaps? check the MAF hasnt come unplugged, check the battery wires and clamps (i know you say it restarts, but just check visually), have a look at the codes to see if the ecu is flagging anything up. Any fuel smells? i am not so sure its going into limp home mode, considering its not doing any limping, you say its stalling? well, I have a similar issue, wher eit will imp around, but will stall at idle. For me, its No1 fuel injector, MAF and the CKP sensor. No one injector is right at the front, under the intercooler, you can get a torch in there and just see it without taking the intercooler off, look for fuel leak. the connector for it is just next to the intercooler, brown and small, second connector away from the intercooler.
The CKP sensor on mine is located at the front of the engine, inbetween the belts. you can trace the wire up the front of the engine, to the connectors mentioned above, make sure thats all clean etc-this affects timing, injection and so on, but is flagged as a code if there is a problem.

let us know what you find?

Try fuel filter and look for a mini filter in the fuel pump banjo union - most common cause of problems on these trucks.

have you got the proverbial friday afternoon car:(

hope you get it sorted before torching it

good luck:thumb2

Also there is a download for the mini filter too:thumbs

hmmmmm sound like your having a right time off it with your truck:( i would have put a match to it by now!! and i thought my little problem were bad!! i say its fuel! dose it rev when stood still? or dose it die the same?

i would have put a match to it by now!!

I'm getting close to that......
Trouble is it's great when running ok, has really impressed me on the green lanes I've tried. I just want it sorted. Was supposed to be cheap reliable fun & save me putting too many private miles on the car I use for work.

I thought exactly the same about my car... kinda regret buying it now! Could have bought a recon engine with the amount i've spent since last November trying to solve my fault... BUT pleased to say im finally getting somewhere with it and im about to get it gas converted for cheapio fuelio.
Persist with it, they are quite impressive for a cheap 4x4 when running right :thumbs

Is your truck petrol or diesel?
My motor is a petrol model and had been stood indoors for 3-4 years when i bought it, I eventually found out it was a multitude of small problems causing one big headache.
Changed - fuel filter, plugs, leads, dizzy cap, rotor, air filter, fuel lines (were weapy), removed blocked cat (was stopping engine revving past 1000rpm), coil, ignition switch, lambda sensor, MAF sensor, sealed up exhaust leaks...
Still not quite 100% but its about 95% there and I can live with it like that for now. :thumb2

Yay! :)
Problem was as simple as the connector to the maf sensor! :thumb2
Really hoping a can deal with the little issues on the old girl now and that nothing else materialises to spoil things......
Thanks to all for the help & advice.

Wooooow! You've solved it! Nice one...
Which connector was it because I have yet to completely solve my issue and im convinced its MAF related... and is a very similar issue to what you had

The 5 terminal electrical plug that fits into it; removed the little rubber gromet that was there (it had split anyway), plugged back in & 'yippee' it revs freely again!

Now to sort the leaking coolant...........

Excellent!!!! That was a nice easy fix :thumb2
I suspect however mine may be more of an issue as i've played with all the plugs and connections a few times which gave no improvement. No harm in trying again tho
