You say that the battery is dead. How do you know this, have you checked voltage of the battery after this happened? Or was it that all the lights went off the dash when you turned the key. Flat battery is about 12.2v and bellow and fully charged about 12.8v.

Really what you want to do is get out the multimeter and start checking voltage at the battery when running, then check at the back of the alternator.Then you need to do voltage drop from neg of battery to casing of alterator and then from pos of battery to pos of alternator. when doing volt...

there's no drain its just not charging, and bad earth wont cause a drain.

This sound like an earth problem, you could try puting 1 jump lead from the neg on the battery to the alternator housing and see if this makes a difference, as i think that the alternator is not charging and the battery is not being drained by something stuck on.

What was the original fault for you to have a new alternator fitted just so we start from the beginning.

That stuff won't work as its not for sticking. You may try and solder it back on as this is what I did to mine, bit tricky though as vertical surface.

Compressor is run by the aux drive belt but the clutch of the compresser is operated by the control switch, you should hear the clutch click in/out with operation of the switch.

You had better change that connector as each glow plug takes about 20 amps so in total around the 80 amp mark then decreasing, that chocalate block is going to get very hot and melt if your not careful, i would ask around and see if you can get an original on back on it. You can get some battery...
