    Oil light staying on

The most common switch failure is positioned just above & behind the starter motor ie; a right pig to get at & almost invisible. A cheap replacement can be found listed under 'Renault', take your old one to compare. It's smaller a/f hex. & much easier to fit (guess how I know LOL). I agree with...

    extended mirrors when towing caravan

It's only legal to have no extending mirrors if the trailer is narrower than the car i.e. the normal mirrors give a clear view down both sides. For me it makes sense to have the extension either side anyway: if the mirrors go thru a gap then so will the 'van LOL. On a related point, does anyone...

    Stuck oil filter on 3.0

You have my sympathy as mine was difficult (& nerve-racking, to remove first time). When you do get the filter loose (fingers crossed LOL) note the arrow cast into the side & unscrew the housing about 3 turns. Paint it white for next time! With the arrow to the top the oil will then drain within...

    Stuck Sump Plug

When you finally get the plug out fit a new one (or even a magnetic one LOL) but use a bonded type washer as this will only need nipping-up to give a reliable seal. The washer will also last indefinitely.

    3.0 Litre Diesel Engine Oil

Ever since buying my 3.0L 4 years ago I've used 5W40 full synth. I was told this is better for the turbo & takes longer to drain so eliminating 'dry' start-ups (My Terra frequently stands for 1 to 2 weeks). It uses no oil in 5K & does approx. 1/3 of this towing 1.6T per year I did start with...

    Towing reverse light/12s socket

Just a thought, there are a lot of cheap & nasty fuses about these days. Caravans, espacially, are fitted with them. They are not to be trusted as, using a meter, they appear to be OK resistance-wise but do not pass anywhere near the stated current. I have resorted to using fuses from scrap cars...

    Towing reverse light/12s socket

Anything over 12V should be OK. Even given a good battery (@12.5V+) there will be some drop along the way. I was told, many years ago, that 1/4V+ drop per connection should be expected so keep these to a min. Also don't use solder on compression joints (such as the plug & skt have) use metal...

    lights again

My daughter's L200 had this problem. Rear RH ind. came on with side lights, couldn't find any fault but remade skt. connections anyway & all was OK ....for a week. Then noticed LH side light fuse had blown so replaced it....RH fuse then blew aaaarrrrrggggghhhh!. Still no obvious fault(s) but...

    driver window

Prevention is better than cure, so they say. In this case spraying the window guides once a year, or two, using silicone will reduce the effort dramatically. It might be all that's required to free the window off. I wouldn't recommend WD40 or the like as they are not unknown to cause swelling of...

    Loud engine when cold

I'm with macbethial on the points above. Especially try 1:200 ratio 2 stroke oil (mineral type not synthetic!) for at least several tank fills as this will clean out the fuel system gently as well as quietening the combustion noise. Morrisons is the cheapest (£4 per Liter). The cost works out at...

    unknown constant elec. drain

As far as I am aware everything is as standard, ie. radio & cd changer. There is something wired up wrong to take this amount surely. On a caravan I owned several years ago, a similar problem existed caused by the std. fit radio. I resorted to pulling the fuse on that as well! I might take the...

    unknown constant elec. drain

Took 'Jims-terrano',s advice & started removing fuses one at a time. The culprit is the audio circuit @ .3A drain!!!! With this fuse removed (from under the bonnet) the drain drops to .02A (LCD display?). Don't know if this is normal (or the actual cause) but all's well with the fuse removed...

    unknown constant elec. drain

Rustic seems to have covered the most likely power losses. Since they could all apply to mine looks like I'm stuck with it, short of using the car more often or disconnecting the battery LOL. It might explain why the original owner, who only covered 300 miles per annum (yes that's three...

    unknown constant elec. drain

Had me worried there for a moment but mine deff. hasn't got an ashtry light.

    unknown constant elec. drain

Dashboard LCD display stays on ALL THE TIME that battery is connected. The ONLY time it is off is when there is no power. Only car I've ever had that has a permanent display. No wonder it is relatively short lived before trouble sets in LOL.

    unknown constant elec. drain

Welcome advice, shouled have thought of that myself LOL; I will give it the once-over tomorrow. Just had a thought, dashboard LCD is on all the time could this be the problem?

    Fixing your LCD Odometer

Nice one shadowbroker!!! This has prompted me to ask if a working odometer is actually required by the MOT. My display has only failed on the '100s' digit, & then mostly in the cooler weather, & even this can be temporarily restored by zeroing the trip. The radio display is totally gone, but I...

    unknown constant elec. drain

My Terrano has always had this problem but after 5 years and a new battery I've finally decided to ask everyone on here for help. Despite a new Bosh battery & the Terrano being inside a locked garage with the key in place, so no alarm set & no Known item on to cause the drain, the battery still...

A great lesson in how not to do somthing

What a plonker: & he is demonstrating the 'correct' method? Where do they find these people & why didn't someone with a bit of sense notice the obvious mistake? Then again perhaps it's not so obvious to most people.......
