Hi all,

Just a quick question, the drivers window stopped working, I can hear a click but nothing moves. Is that a relay?

Thanks
Martin

Force it by hand when you are pressing the button and see if that moves it, mine have got stuck like that before

Mine is slow. Bit if not moving, could just have come out the runners

Had the same issue on the passenger side window once, it would go up and down but with a lot of grinding.

Turns out the rubber thingies holding the winding motor were shot. Replaced them with some rubber I had around and a zip tie.

3 of the 4 windows on Suz car did that... I found a combination of problems... Firstly I sprayed round the rubbers with WD40 and left it to soak in, then with the engine running, and the Revs raised a bit to bring up the volts, While Suz pressed the window switch, I had the appropriate door open, and with a hand on each side of the window assisted it to slide down. Then with the window down, I ran WD40 down the side channels, and allowed it to run past the window in the channel...

I also used a rag soaked in WD40 to clean the visible parts of the channel, including the upside down bit at the top of the door. Once I did that, the windows worked, but very slowly...

I took the centre console out, and sprayed all the switches with contact cleaner... personally, I ended up taking the switches apart, as I changed the blown bulbs for blue LED's at the same time, and while apart, I properly cleaned up the contacts....

No problems since... (Touch wood)

Prevention is better than cure, so they say.
In this case spraying the window guides once a year, or two, using silicone will reduce the effort dramatically. It might be all that's required to free the window off. I wouldn't recommend WD40 or the like as they are not unknown to cause swelling of rubber parts & have no lasting lubrication properties.

This silicone spray method has proved itself many times & I have never personally had any lasting problems over the last 20+ years of using it.

Sometimes a window will go all the way up and will not come back down and all you hear is a click. :(

I've had 3 of these now.

The motor drives the window upward and it is the increased torque on the motor at the end of travel that causes it to stall and move no more and hopefully the window is all the way up when this happens. Note that the motor didn't come to a sudden stop but a few of the last turns of the worm drive were taken up by the elasticity in the window mechanism.

Reversing the motor should unwind this elasticity and the worm drive should move the mechanism in the opposite direction ...... but once in a blue moon the worm drive mechanism binds and sticks - and the torque of the motor is not enough to overcome the binding. This is the clicking you can hear.

There is no real cure for this, it is wear and tear and may be reduced by taking it apart and greasing up.

To release the tension caused by the binding you will have to take the load off the motor worm drive mechanism by taking off the door skin and dissembling and reassembling the motor. Plenty of grease and hopefully it won't happen again for a while.

Window

Hi again,
Just an update on my problem with window.
Tested it and power goes up to the motor so I think that the relay is ok, it must be a motor. Has anybody got one ? Don't want to spend too much.

Thanks
Martin

My drivers window did the same, I got a complete window regulator off ebay brand new for 50/60 squids I think, euro car parts do them at a similar price I think.

You have rubber and zip ties just laying around? :p
