Forums view on when to brake flexi-hose?

For peace of mind, and at that price, I wouldn't wait... Replaced the entire brake pipe system on my T2 last year, had been on the car for almost 20 years. Should have been done 10 years ago, I think...

tow hook bike carrier on Terrano?

For that price I'm happy to take off the spare wheel and put it in the boot !

    Fuel gauge

I noticed on my T2 the orange light is almost invisible in daylight, and hidden away in the far left of the dashboard...

tow hook bike carrier on Terrano?

Wise ones, I need your advice. Recently got a nice new bike, another one for Mrs perelaar, and thinking now of ways to increase our range of bike rides a bit. Does a bike carrier fit on the T2 tow hook - as in, is the spare wheel not in the way of the upright thing on the carrier? Don't want to...

    Internal Chassis Prep

Don't fill it with oil, you'll just spread oil all over the area. Plus oil washes off, so no long term solution. Spray it out with high-pressure washer, and then use a compressor. For a long long time... Tilting the chassis might encourage faster drying, since you'll have almost no standing...

where to get steering relay centre rod and idler arm?

I had thought of the steering box conversion, but I don't have the time now to make that work before the next MOT (in max 2 weeks). Found a relay rod and idler arm online, should be here by the end of the week. Milners unfortunately did not have the idler arm in stock.

where to get steering relay centre rod and idler arm?

Because I just failed Belgian MOT on those... Milners does not have the idler arm in stock, and Belgian shops ask crazy money (>£180 for the centre rod, >£60 for the idler arm)... Thanks in advance!

    Sat Nav

For the family car, the built in satnav (Seat Leon 2015). Very good, very fast, but annoyingly impossible to turn off traffic warnings. For a "mobile" unit: Tomtom or Garmin, whichever gives you best update options. Very happy here with our old Tomtom One XL, only ever used Garmin in friends'...

    Lt/100km

Compared to mine (1997 swb 2.7 tdi), very good. I get long-term measured average 10,88l/100km.

    T2 Rear guard

I'm planning to have one made. Can't weld, otherwise I'd do it myself. Thick concrete rebar net, cut to size, metal band around all the sharp edges, bolted to the floor (metal loading floor in mine, commercial) and to the handles in the roof...

    Decathlon T4.1 tent FREEEEEEEEE!

Nice tent! We have the same, use it 4 or 5 times a year in all weather. It never let us down, even withstood thunderstorms, snow and below zero temperatures :)

    Poor Repairs

I truly admire your stoicism. I'd probably have set fire to this place by now, if it were my car... Definitively involve authorities (I agree with others here you should have done it from the moment the first bodged repair became apparent).

    Poison Filled Cakes

Back on topic, be very careful with poison. If a dog or cat gets to the cake... or to the poisoned squirrel... Or even a nosy neighbour kid... Air rifle is a better solution, but be weary of your local gun laws.

    Poor Repairs

Fully agree with rustic, do involve the authorities. This is just bodging work - even worse for a local garage, as I'd make sure word gets around.

    Replacement CV joints

Very easy to do, but as said order top and bottom ball joints at the same time. I've used Milners cv boots, nothing wrong with them after 1y of usage. Easiest way to get at them is to take the drive shafts out, if you check my past posts there is an update from Rick (I think) on how to do that.

    4x4 holidays in Spain

He might want to make sure he'll actually be allowed to convert farmland into a 4x4 track - and have it in official writing ;)

    Outer CV Boots

Yes, have a look at this thread. Easiest way: take the entire assembly off the car. Might seem a lot of work, but it will save you a lot of time. On my car (I was lucky!) only the boots were torn, inside of the cv was still OK. At the same time, you might want to replace the lower bump stops...

Let's have a chat about steering...

My 1997 T2 did more or less the same, the compression rod bushes were completely worn and rotted. I have replaced them, but as the cups were damaged as well the problem will most likely return. If I can get hold of someone with welding equipment I'll have new cups installed next time.

    Pay before sending

I'd still be stuck without a chassis crossmember if it wasn't for Rick! And international sending as well sorted out, no complaints here :) No idea how we arranged payment then, I think it was through paypal
