That's handy to know. Thanks Regards Alan

    Very spongy brakes?

This is an interesting way of bleeding brakes, which I have never heard of. I assume that Rick doesn't advocate bleeding them through the bleed nipples because of the risk of snapping them off? This has happened to me when doing our old (1999) 318is brakes. I am guessing that if you keep...

Easy jobs alway end up taking 3 X as long

Apologies for going off topic, but I commute around 60 miles a week on my bike, most of which have been through saturated muddy lanes. I invested in an 11 speed shimano hub geared bike (used off of eBay) last year thinking it would be lower maintenance than the traditional derailleur set up...

Central Locking Defect - T2 TDI

That's very good of you to let me know, what the mystery box is, and I would be very interested in buying the lock mechanism, assuming it is the same as the 'gubbins' in the picture. At your convenience, I would be grateful if you could confirm the cost including postage to Gloucestershire...

Central Locking Defect - T2 TDI

I think the constant revision of models and components is cunning plan on the manufacturers part to confound the DIY mechanic. I feel a little bit better hearing that these systems are complicated for someone well versed in auto electrics. I appreciate the feedback though. Regards Alan

Central Locking Defect - T2 TDI

Thanks for the reply. I have been messing about with it for the best part of today, and not achieved a lot really. I am going to raise the white flag on this one, and put it all back together tomorrow. I have a feeling the door lock actuator unit is on the fritz, so I will try to get a second...

Easy jobs alway end up taking 3 X as long

I did my drop links a couple of weeks ago, and had the problem with the nuts, so it was roll bar off and hacksaw etc... It took me a lot longer than an hour though. If it's any consolation I got up early this morning to take on the central locking problem, and haven't done particularly well...

Central Locking Defect - T2 TDI

As planned I have been out to the car this morning, and removed the door card and vapour barrier to expose the internal workings of the door. I couldn't detect any obvious defects with the wiring I.e bared or pinched wires etc, and the mechanical parts such as the link rods from the inside and...

    drop link sized rose joint....

They look really trick. Are they a direct replacement for the standard size equipment? Shame as I have just replaced both of mine. Regards Alan

Subs paid for my 2nd year

Couldn't agree more... I asked a question about my central locking yesterday, and had two meaningful responses within a hour. At less than a pound a month, that very good value for technical help, not to mention the camaraderie. I wish I knew more so that I could give advice on a wider range...

    intercooler mist jets

I have been reading about this on the web recently, and it appears that Subaru Evo's have them fitted as standard, although there was some debate about the benefit. One article I read suggested supplying them from the rear washer feed? Regards Alan

No problem mate, I'm hoping to have a look at it on the weekend, so I hadn't pulled anything apart yet. I appreciate your coming back to me though. Regards Alan

Central Locking Defect - T2 TDI

Thanks for the feedback. I'll take a look through the sites search function. I hope it is as simple as a bit of jiggling (that word always makes me think of Arkwright :) ) and greasing. Regards Alan

Thanks for the reply. I'll start off by finding what plug I have on my car, then take it from there. It doesn't look to costly to set up either. Regards Alan

Central Locking Defect - T2 TDI

Thank you for the very quick reply. I will take the door card of the drivers door first, as suggested, and have a (careful) root around for anything that might be amiss. I have to admit I wouldn't of started looking on that side, so you may have saved me a lot of time. This is the first car I...

Central Locking Defect - T2 TDI

My Terrano has developed a fault recently with the central locking. The car can still be unlocked from the key-fob 'plipper'. It can also be relocked, but only if the passenger front door is manually locked first. If you try to lock the doors without manually locking the front passenger door...

    Consult II Cable & ECUTalk

This is an interesting thread, and I would like to hook my truck to the software. Unfortunately a lot of it is going over my head, especially the IT stuff. I hope someone might indulge me for minute... Where do I find the diagnostic socket on the truck? Where can I get the ECU Talk software...
