what's wrong with the one on there ? they are easy to overhaul and will be cheaper than a second hand unit that will possibly be knackered anyway.

I'd rethink the halfords opinion if I were you. If they've missed welding (which they can't do) but picked up the exhaust (which they can ) I'd suggest an ulterior motive, which could potentially put you in danger.

Knackered pads would be my first thought, as suggested see what's happening when the pedal is pressed. Are the pistons coming out quickly and evenly ? Could be seized pistons ? Pads glazed or contaminated, discs contaminated ? Pads not sliding properly ?

No point replacing something that isn't broken, but if the old one has play or looks shagged out then replace it. There should be a flat in the surface of the bolt to stop the top turning and and allen key hole in the end of the bolt to stop the bottom turning. (or the other way round). the ebay...

Pulling to one side on the brakes, possible opposite side caliper seized slightly. Easy fix, remove caliper, pop pistons out, clean everything, put it back together.

at that price you might be replacing them again in 6 months. You'll need an allen key to stop the top 'bolt' turning and a spanner to stop the bottom 'bolt' turning. Or a hack saw.:augie

Only mentioned the magneto becuase that's what was wrong with mine. I replaced it and it's been fine ever since. It could be the carb. fiddly little buggers to service but can be done. I would try cleaning it allout with carb cleaner and blasting all the pipes through with compressed air first...

replace it if it looks doddgy, no water to keep in so it'll be a cheap fix. Try changing the coil to get it runing properly, or just cleaning the magnet might help.

Same here mate no criticism intended, just thought you might get a problem with lubrication because the mower will be stationary rather than being bumped round a garden.

Have you thought about lubrication ? I thought they were lubed by splashing the oil around during mowing ? :nenau

as makeitfit said, get the right stuff or it'll perish/clog/rot/swell/shrink/etc.. It's got to be resistant to petrol/diesel/veg oil, you can't just put any old rubber pipe on there.
