I know you get what you pay for, I know Milners aren't that expensive for drop links, BUT, has anyone bought from any eBay seller a cheap set that were okay?

I'm being a tight wad! I know there's a chance I'll have to buy the right ones second time, just wondered if anyone on the bay sells decent links for small beer.

If I hadn't of rushed into buying my new ones from eBay, I'd would of spent the extra and bought the ones from Milners.

I still might return the eBay ones and get the Milners ones - not decided yet.

Remember; buy once, cry once.

I started a thread a while back, well over a year, on exactly this issue, that we should report back the results of using drop links from different sources.

Then we can decide which are best. Not much happened then though.

The problem is that suppliers to dealers like Milners change regularly, often they may buy cheapest.

So drop links bought last year may not be from the same supplier as this year.

andy4x4 droplinks

after swapping my vitara for mt t2, swapping insurance, tax and having to fork out £85 on a new relay link bar the kitty was empty. i bought a pair of drop links off ebay for 12 quid, yes i know cheaper than a cage full of bugdies, but i bought them so i dont have to fork out on a new pair of front tyres. i know in my mind everything is fitted tightly before i track it up.(which was off the scale)
i dont expect them to last for more than a few months, and looking at the difference in quality and build, they look like they are for a car not a 2 ton 4x4. i intend to buy a quality pair to replace the inferior ones i have fitted, but unfortunatley payday is but once a month. it is a job onthe top of my jobs to do list. at least i know it will easier to take them off this time.
personaly i would buy the best you can afford, the better the quality the longer it`ll last. all the best Andy.:thumb2

As part of Rustic's link last year I added my penn'orth.
I bought a set from Milners and they didn't fit (the offset was wrong which meant they were not perpendicular to the wishbone).
Ideally I should have returned them, but didn't bother, instead I bought a pair from a Spanish autocambios (motor factor), expensive at 33 euros, but they fitted correctly and I've just checked them after around 8 months and 9.000 miles of 70% mountain tracks and 30% Spanish roads, and they are as good as new - not much help for UK I know, but proves there are some good ones out there.

I have just replaced my drop links on my 1996 maverick i have used Milner and the local Fast Part Dealer with no difference between to two suppliers,I have to say that the state on Welsh roads and all those increased speed bumps which doesn't do any justice for drop links at all so i replace then every year just before the Mot Is Due and believe me it Pays off every time.

Still dont know why you lot bother with them at all, just get some good rose joints, job done
I did a thread |I think :lol sorry pub phone beer talkings :D

i bought mine from ebay last year, failed mot, so fitted some more, faield again within 6 months, replaced them AGAIN with a bigger set and much better. dont bother with the cheap ebay ones, they are for getting it through an MOT before you sell it on!

its the rubber that fails, so i suppose you could buy the link and some poly bushes and save money that way as it was only the rubber bush that went on mine both times...

I'm needing to change the leftside drop link. It's mint, just failed rubbers:rolleyes: and it now makes an annoying clunk when you turn right. Probably do it tomorrow "Monday" as I've got another drop link

yup thats what mine did both times BUT, you have to be careful as each clunk that is made is slowly wearing away the hole that the link drops through, making it bigger, and bigger....etc dont leave it too long, like i did...:thumbs

Ok, thanks guys - sorry busy yesterday 'enjoying' fathers day!, so a decent set of bushes even on a worn drop link is better than a piece of poo from ebay then?

Pete - rose joints? - I'm an IT nerd, I have no idea, sounds like a pick up joint for men only to me!

Pete mate, I reckon it's about time you started putting the rose joint drop link kits together and selling them.
After replacing my new drop links within 6 weeks of fitting them, I'd gladly have paid twice the price for the rose joint set up.
If you don't fancy that, maybe you could do a write up on exactly what's needed, sizes etc, and where to get the stuff from.

Oh alright then, I'll do it when I get home.
In the mean time this is a dodgy shot of it

Yes, this would be great :)

So I sent my cheap eBay drop links back this morning (they looked solid enough, but looks can be deceiving)

I'm going to get a pair from Milners; silly question though - will I need to get my tracking done after they've been fitted?

Won't affect the tracking, they just control and limit the articulation.
