guys......i...er....well....I have been watching some Fiat X19's for a long time, just seeing how much they sell for etc, and I saw one a few month ago, that seemed to keep reappearing with bids on it up to £500. So, while out and about today I decided something wasnt right, so id put on a bid of £510, not believing for a second that i'd win................

..............I pigging won it. Now, I want one, i think they are ace and I have always wanted a little classic car, which I believe these X19's are. I dont mind a fixer upper, which this car is (although its MOT and Taxed till later this year, so its driveable i think), my problem is, I still dont believe the auction. I do need to contact the guy, but im a bit nervous. This is the auction:

and I got it for £510....which even for a fixer upper, is a pretty good price considering its got mot, tax, and is driving etc. Its at the bottom of the flipping country though, so my issue is getting it home.

has anyone got any experience with cmpanies that collect your car, and deliver it? How do you go about resolving trust issue with regards payment? What securities can I put in place? arrggghhh.....im both excited, and still not convinced this is for real.

what do you think?

That's the trouble with ebay, it can cost more to get than it did to buy. We've all done it and regreted it later.
Get it on your insurance as second car, make sure its on your breakdown cover. Catch a train to Hampshire drive it a bit........let reay do the rest. David.

ha ! well, The Fiat club directed me to this site:

www.shiply.com

I signed up, entered my details etc and almost immediately got a quote for £250. Ill leave it a few days, but even thats not unreasonable.

I just need to hear from the guy, im still not fully believing this is for real, i reckon he's gonna duck out of the deal as its been on twice now i think, and reached £500 each time, and ended at that price, so, i am seriously doubtful, but you never know....

if anyone on the club wants the job, let me know your quote!

silly question clive , but ...... have you paid for it yet ( by paypal ) ?

as for quote ...... pay for my fuel and i will take you down and follow you back (with a towrope just in case ) ..... or solarman 216 ( rick ) has a car trailer , and may offer you a better deal ...... he could even look at it with swifty if you asked i suppose

good idea, ill run it by solarman see what he says.

Car isnt paid for, and certainly wont be until I verify security. He does do PaypAl, which is safer for me (can easily get my money back if there are issues) but i have to get him to get in touch. I am seriously doubtful though, see here:

hmm...actually, fair point. For some reason, I got it stuck in my head that it was infact the SELLER that had decided to cancel the sale, due to not getting what they wanted, but its a very fair point that it could be the buyer, who perhaps decided it was way too far!!

I have had some superb quotes to have it collected and delivered, so now im just playing the old waiting game. although i have the guys number, ill ring him tomorrow and see what the crack is...

ok, I have had confirmation from the seller, i really have won the car, and thats a big lesson learned (although I do actually want the car, i wasnt expecting to actually win it!!!)

eeeeek.

so, currently im getting excellent quotes for transporters. Im paying via paypal once i have a day arranged, and transporter arranged, so then i have paypal protection if anything goes badly wrong.

The way i see it, if the car is as described, i cant complain. I expect it to start, and drive, although it needs a tune up. I expect the clutch to be good, gears good, and it should drive. I expect the body work to be poor, but thats fine. Minor repairs to seats look evident (leather) so thats ok as well, all in all, a cheap project. If when it arrives, its got major rust issues, fauklty gearbox etc etc, I can hopefully complain to ebay/paypal and get it sorted, but looking at the history etc, its an honest car description-wise...

fingers crossed....this will be my first "classic" car. It was either one of these, or a Spitty, and for the price, I figured its a risk worth taking with the fiat being such a simple car to fix, and cheap for parts...

there are a lot of trailer hire companies that will rent you a trailer for around £35 a day! a lot of them advertise on ebay :thumb2

I have bought and sold vehicles all over the country on ebay, you will be fine mate :thumb2

Reading the description, he said it starts ok. Why not say it drives ok too ? Worst case ? It doesn't.

I would save yourself a potential load of hassle and collect it yourself, or get someone you trust to look at it, before parting with a single penny.

You'll never get collection/delivery/travel costs refunded, so I would seriously be thinking about asking someone who can give you a professional opinion to go an see it.

Once you have payed thats it, Nothing can really be done as the description is a bit vague in parts.

As said above, Go and collect yourself. Just because you won the item does not mean you have to still pay and buy it if you feel it's not as described.

Rust issues? It's a FIAT! Of course it will have rust issues :augie

thanks guys, im going to try and organise some times to get down there and look at it, perhaps I should have done this before buying. Im going to mail some questions also, to see if that can save me the trip down (if he admits something else is wrong)

im hoping to ask Solarman if he can inspect it for me (paid of course), maybe even trailer it up, so im going to PM him now and see what he says.

its a big risk i know, but i havent paid for it yet, so lets not do too many horror stories!! I wont be paying anything until i am satisified...

aye, i meant MAJOR rust issues...!

don't make me repeat myself :lol

but seriously, hire a trailer and crack on, If Pete's offer stands take him along to ride shotgun and check it out for yourself. You may even be able to barter fun unexpected surprises when you get there. And for heavens sake PAY CASH!

work out the percentage paypal would have taken and knock him down on that to start with :thumbs

Think you will find you have to pay what you bid on the auction thats the whole point of it.I sold a car a while back they tried to knock me down £20 and had traveled 100 miles they left without it so be aware that you may drive 200 miles for nothing if you start messing about on price.
