    Synchromesh or Selector?

1st gear is synchromesh, and has a different selector to reverse, so it’s not the selector. If the synchro baulk ring becomes worn it generally causes the gears to grate. I would defiantly check the clutch for drag and also the gearbox oil may be to thick.

Far Too Noisy(sick of saying there all like it)

The valve is in the injection pump, it is operated by the low pressure feed side of the pump (a vane pump within the injection pump) and controlled by the ecu that sends pulses to operate it. I wouldn’t go rushing in to replace the pump at this stage though. Get a good diesel specialist to...

Far Too Noisy(sick of saying there all like it)

The Terrano tends to be noisy compared to the more modern common rail engines Firstly you have to decide whether it is a diesel knock or something metallic knocking. Adjust the tappets, as this is a simple job and can rule them out of the equation, if slack they will not only chatter...

    Battery

I changed my battery last week. Cold mornings the engine was turning over real slow, ok when not near to freezing. Tested the old battery and it tested out to be 85% health good and pass.. Having never had a new battery in my 4 years of ownership and not knowing when or even if it had been...

    Misfiring? Glow plugs?

Looks like you have a hole in your intercooler, the oil will be coming from the breather system or the turbo, may be worth cleaning out your breather when you change the intercooler, which you willl have to do as you are loosing turbo boost pressure and from experience this will cause a...

    Lucas or Sumitomo ?

Should be these, But there is always a chance you may have an odd one. Take the wheel off and make sure before you buy, you can see without removing the pads, just look for the spring attached to the top of the pad.

    Clutch Pedal Return Springs

Got to be honest mine broke on one side, so I purchased a new one from Nissan, (about £10 I think) its been sitting in the glove box awaiting fitting for about 2 years. Pedal still returns fully with half a spring.

    Welder Advice

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=120472399874 I bought one of these a couple of weeks ago for home, cracking little welder for the money, may not be the best on the market but the price is really good. Have read reports of them having a poor wire feed, but I have put a full...

    Adjusting Valve Clearances

Normally they come off really easy as they are fitted with a good rubber gasket that you can reuse. Sounds like some one has been out with the RVT silicone and stuck it down:doh, you will have to try and prise it off with a couple of screwdrivers, take care you don’t deform it though.
