    TD gearbox into TDi ?

Think you will find the mounting cross member is different as well as the prop. Although saying that earlier tdis have the same box as the td. So difficult to tell which you have, an easy guide that normally is accurate is the level / filler plugs are on opposite sides.

    coolant

As far as im aware anything over 50% (50%water 50% antifreeze) starts to go the other way 100% will freeze at arond -12degC. Thats unless you are using pre-mixed stuff.

official times to change given parts

All vehicle manufacturers specify what are known as RTS times, these are used mainly to pay for time on warranty claims. I know many non dealer garages use Auto data that has the option of some set times for servicing etc. I am not sure of the motor trade dealers RTS times, but the ones we use...

Have you got any smoke from the exhaust when trying to start?

Wont start.? 1st start of the day.? Then ok.?

You want to start by checking to see if you have 12 volts with the key on at the pump solenoid. If you don’t then you will have to trace it back. With out an electrical diagram for your model I am not sure whether it goes directly back to the ignition switch or via a relay. There is more than...

Wont start.? 1st start of the day.? Then ok.?

If you don’t have an immobilizer then the solenoid on the pump will be powered (to let fuel through) when the ignition is turned on.

    leaking diesel

Could be leaking diesel where the leak off pipe from the injectors joins the return fitting at the injection pump, I have had them leaking here in the past when the rubber pipe splits at the end where it is pushed on to the steel pipe.

Wont start.? 1st start of the day.? Then ok.?

Have you checked your positive battery cable is not cracked where it enters the battery terminal. Also it could be your ignition switch that is the problem.

    oil

Preferably try and get your hands on some GL4 75W90 for the gearbox and trans.box if you can.

    oil

Just to add, the manual states 3.5ltrs for the manual gearbox this is correct for the earlier box with the filler/level plug on the left-hand side, but the later box with the filler level plug on the right-hand side holds a tad over 5ltrs. A year 2000 t2 should be the latter.

    Smoke.? / Fueling.?

Black smoke is fuel that is not burnt correctly generally associated with too much fuel, fuel that is not atomized correctly or not enough air to burn it correctly. White smoke is fuel that is not burnt, cause normally by incorrect timing. Cold combustion and heavy fuelling on start up also has...
