is there a source of such info, so one can check not being over charged
excessive repair rates for jobs.

ie x hours to change part y etc.

mmmmmmm that would be a nice link:sly
Garages and insurance companies use them so they must be out there. Just a case of spying the source I gues.
I'm waiting for Briggie to come up trumps on this one

Yes every nut and bolt on every car made has a workshop time allocated to it, we had then in the early seventies, so many hours, minutes to change this that or the other, with modern computer stuff it will be out there some where, but the manufacturers do not want you to see it, Rick

the company that supplies (or supplied) such things to garages was autodata, haven't searched but might be worth a try :thumb2

i have tried to find a legal standard for garage labour , but as yet havent found one ...... perhaps there isnt one ? :nenau....... but i will continue to research :thumb2

Tbh i dont think a national hourly rate guide exists. There are guides for how long a job would take (making the presumption youve got decent bod on the job :augie ) but then the garage charges what it wants per hour.

as we all know they vary tremendously. For example by us youve got the Merc dealer charging over 90 quid plus vat , about 5 mile away youve got their ex foreman who is one switched on cookie charging half that inc vat!!!!

could you negotiate for fixed price job ?

Zippy656 hasn't bothered replying coz you've stole his rapid find that link spot :lol

All vehicle manufacturers specify what are known as RTS times, these are used mainly to pay for time on warranty claims. I know many non dealer garages use Auto data that has the option of some set times for servicing etc.
I am not sure of the motor trade dealers RTS times, but the ones we use in the agricultural industry sometimes fall far outside the time the job actual takes, they do not allow for any problems encountered such as seized parts or complications on older machines etc.
But any set times for any job on any vehicle would not mean that the job would cost the same across the board as labour rates vary so much.

not looking for costs, just times, costs vary but skill shouldnt
though fair point about seized parts etc.

looking for a time to do HGF head gasket on y61 patrol 3.0tdi
zd engine.

got couple of offers to do work, cheers solarman, and a very
reasonable time to do it, just wondering why local garage
seems to think needs almost double.
