View Full Version : Should I expect a small rise?

So im going from my crappy road tyres which are shagged to a new set of
Event ML698 A/T tyres.

They look pretty grippy I must say.

Should I expect a small height rise from the increased tread?

they are exactly the same size as previous.. :nenau

You may notice a little bit but not a huge amount - I know that my spare wheel cover had to be a bit larger than the tyre diameter on paper due to it being an AT as opposed to a pure road going tyre.

Main thing is your truck will now look meaner... GRR :sly :thumbs

I also noticed the noise difference when I went from AT to road going tyres on my last Terry.

You'll notice a small amount of height difference but the road nosie will be the biggest change, if you're buying 5 then you'll have to bin the back door cover as it won't go back over the wheel

i had my back door cover go over 31's

When I brought the car it had 4 Goodrich's on and a Dueller on the back door with the cover on.

Once I replaced the 2 fronts I put one in the garden shed and another on the spare on the back door and then flogged the Dueller on eBay

The cover promptly went into the bin as it barely went over the Dueller and had no chance going over the Goodrich

was yours a material cover or a hard cover with metal surround?

There was no difference when I swapped from road tyres to cooper AT3's ok there might be 1/2 a Db in it:lol TBH I was a bit gutted they didn't hum like my old falkens or general grabber:( being a mountain biker it's something you get used to:lol

I've only got 4 anyway. The db noise is 76 i believe

I'm getting 4 wheel alignment done first then fitting the new tyres, otherwise the tyres don't sit properly after being up in the air, you would have to go for a 15 min spin.

my 698's rubbed my mud guards on the inner edge only on full lock, it only rubs for a few weeks then its gone :thumb2
they are 31" give or take a few mm, but in real life you wont notice a lift. good tyres, louder than the bridgestones i had on but that is to be expected. look good!

And your rating please sir? On and off road if applicable :naughty

A small lift would get rid of this rub right?

its the tiniest of rubs in all honesty it has only filed down the edge of mudflap, but that said i have raised it to just above factory since and it still rubs slightly. nothing to worry about. not really been in any real sticky situations as yet but as they are the same tread pattern and depth as bf goodriche then they should be just fine. obviously on road in the wet they will never match road tyres, but i dont really chuck the truck around anyway. ive done a LOT of mileage on these(maybe 15k since april) and no problems to report thankfully.

only need to get the front tracked? I might be wrong but no adjustment on the back don't be paying out for some amazing four wheel laser alignment that is no more than front tracking!!

i had mine 4 wheel tracked too, money well spent as the rears can move out over time. heres a pick of truck and as you can see the front is slightly low, but not by a lot. ive adjusted it up level with rear as raising rear by 1" and it still touches, but not enough to warrant ditching mud guard.

We have an account set with the guys i am using. We are a very fussy dealership, the techs have told me alignment first then tyres, NOT the other way around!

The company we use give us trade of 62.50 for all camber toe in toe out ect ect. Not really a tracking master but it's meant to be the daddy :nenau

our local tyre dealers give free tracking and ten quid for every corner needing adjusting, hunter computer thing, the rears do move, my old vectra was hideously out at the back!

AlexD333
30-01-2014, 23:32
Like i said, I'm not v clued up with this, but the techs told me its not the normal "old skool" tracking. Don't really know much more than that?

i read an old post on here where someones back wheels had become misaligned?sure i did, best get checked before spending on new tyres i think.

may not need adjusting but there is no way a car would not have some kind of age wear and tear on bushes etc to not warrant movement surely? i could be wrong?

Yes your right about bushes wearing but there is no adjustment, someone looking at wheel alignment will not often start checking the condition of your suspension bushes!! best check that yourself and get the front tracked.
At £62.50 id want a full service included for that money :sly

:lol :D me likey.

Talking of service prices you'd be shocked if you could see some of the jag service costs. I think about 740/760 is the highest service I've seen so far.

And then when you start adding tyres at 350 a corner

"So even though the need to check rear wheel alignment is there, there's not much a technician can do if the rear wheels aren't true with respect to the ones up front."

You could add some form of adjustable axle stays if you really wanted to make the rear adjustable, someone will have done it on a terrano before im sure. :naughty

they are a good compromise and will cope with most situations, pop some bull dog wheel spacers on next to bring them out to fill the arches(this is possibly why mine rub?)
