Well well well, truck is giving me grief again!

Went out this morning, all ok. Got back fine, running like a dream.

Go to start at 2pm and half cranks over, sound like central locking clicks then speedo and rev counter start a merry dance.........*@*#

So thought it may be battery so disconnected and put on charge. Reconnected and all is well again, but it worries me. Thing is battery was showing charged on the battery charger indication.

All very strange.

you might find it could have been immobiliser playing about or a bad connection to the battery if you have recently removed the bat or its worked it's self loose

Check the battery leads, and the earth strap block to chassis. This is almost always the cause of these symptoms. Give them a good inspection as they often appear fine to a casual glance.

Thanks fellas. Will have a good rummage araound the bay tomorrow.

Definitely sounds like something is loose in the bay.....Have a good rummage.

Ok all checked and tight and continuity good.

Put battery back on and starts fine. Checked battery voltage ign off and get about 12.99 volts. Turn ign on and it goes down to 12.2. I therefore summise that the alternator is knackered.

Trying to get a new one is proving interesting! Might be a call to milner off road. Unless anyone knows different.

If you meant:

Engine off / ignition off = 13v
Engine off / ignition on = 12.2v

If Engine on @ 2000rpm = 14v then alternator charging.
If less than 13v = alternator not charging
If more than 14.5v = alternator regualator buggered.

Yeah, engine on less than 13v.

Sorry if any confusion.

Managed to source one after quotes of £199+ VAT, £154+ VAT..........a magic £110 inc of VAT and courier delivery.

From a place called West Lancs Auto Electrics.

Don't know if there is one on the site, but might be worth having a parts section, where people post where they source parts and the service they get. Just a thought.

It's working, he says
Ebay rocks you know :sly
I've also got a 150 bosch one I'm fiddling with, but looks like I'll be able to makeitfit :lol
That should help keep the battery well charged:thumbs
