Happend to mine too

I was just out of hospital so took a fewdays to sort it.

My wipers stopped suddenly this morning, funnily enough. Motor's still operating, and the linkage is in one piece as both still move in synch, so I think I might've lost the nut too. Having read this I can't think of anything else it could be :nenau

Now you have heard of three in one day.

We had a new MkIII escort back in 1983, the wipers stopped working, the nut had come loose, but had escaped to the road somewhere, it was early morning we made it to a garage forecourt.. garage was closed... I looked down, and on the floor by my feet was a rusty old nut.. I thought... that looks a similar size to the one I lost... 2 minutes later, tightened up... we were on our way.

Stayed as it was when we sold the car too.
The nut probably relies on a taper on the shaft, so probably isn't tightened that much, and it should really have a shake proof washer or a nylock nut, but hey... this is another component to stock, handle and fit.

In the days of new car ownership, I used to enjoy lifting the edges of the carpet during any rewire jobs or tow bar fitting, to see what goodies the car assemblers left behind, nuts, bolts, spring panel clips, plastic clips, at least you knew they would be replacement parts for your car.:augie
Ford then British Leyland offered the best parts, although if British Leyland, then you probably need the clip somewhere, as they dropped it and couldn't be a***d to use a replacement, and just left the trim loose...:doh
Ford were more affluent, and had excess parts, mind you, I wouldn't want the last car of a batch..:lol

What an utter, utter pig of a job! Stripping everything back was easy enough, but 1 10mm socket has disappeared into the bulkhead forevers, as did 3 replacement nuts. Then tightening the darn thing up needed an extra wrist, before discovering that the rubber securing clips wouldn't re-engage in the holes. Job's done, and I have to say I'm glad to see the back of it. If that nut comes off again I'm cutting an access hole :sly
