Window tints.

I know its been discussed before but has anyone actually managed to do a neat job with window film on the rear window??????????

If so ........HOW did you do it :bow

I'm about to have another go, flat glass like the sides no great problem but the back one arrrggghhh

Are you using a heat gun to stretch film to fit curve?

Just started tinting mine, hold fire if you can and i will do a right up

Make sure the glass is clean and use a none film leaving cleaning cleaner, wear latex gloves as not to leave finger marks and use lots of the spray.

Tip: use two bits of masking tape on either side and pull apart to show sides

How visible is the join ?

I done mine in two horizontal strips and the join doesn't show as it follows one of the heated rear window lines.

Cut to size and match the join from the outside first making sure it's the wrong way round, the join can slightly overlap, and then apply to the inside so there is no cutting to do.

I've seen one for 14.99 in the local and 19.99 in chav halfords?

Do you cut to what you can see or do you have to remove the trim at the bottom, and what happens at the top and sides?
I can understand say removing the glass totally to do a good job but this would be excessive labour.:nenau

DO NOT GO TO HALFORDS the med smoke 60cm x 1.8m is £19.99 in ours. Local motor factor..............wait for this.....................£9.99

Well I did my fronts on my old mav. It's a right fiddle if you dont take the window out, but it's doable1
First make sure you've got the right tint for front windows. If your doing the back only then whatever you want.
Take the window rubbers out of the door frame as much as you can.
Aplly the tint film over size and use some sticky tape like gaffer tape to hold it in place while you poke the edge to the edge of the glass. Things will ruck up a bit but dont panic. As long as you dont fold it you're ok. When it's all in place get a new craft knife and trim round the window about 5mm in from the edge.
Then do another squeegee session, the give it a right royal dry off.
I used her indoors clear nail varnish as an extra seal round the edges:thumbs
WHEN it's all dry carefully poke the rubbers back in place
Once the window is shut you dont see the edges you've cut:thumbs

If I do it again the window is coming out

Thanks for the info Dino and Makitfit, it looks a very testing job to do, but you both have gone into a lot of detail, in detailing the problems and the solutions and I guess it will be very much appreciated by the club members.
It seems patience and perseverance is the key, and if you make a mistake try again.
Thanks again for your time in explaining it.
So there is a job more difficult than changing an oil filter on a 2.7TD then :lol

I'd rather tint me windows any day:lol
Bigest thing is CLEAN everything including you and use loads of spray:thumbs
£30 squid seems mucho steep though!
