THE KIT:

Bought from Halfords for £30
<O:p</O:p

http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_storeId_10001_catalogId_10151_productId_552551_langId_-1_categoryId_165659
<O:p</O:p
<O:p</O:p

Kit contains
<O:p</O:p

1. Film 17x152cm (big enough for most windows)
2. Small bottle of lubrication to dilute at 2 x caps per 500ml or a typical spray bottle
3. Scraper
4. Instructions
<O:p</O:p

The film was big enough for all rear windows (x5 windows) and had to be trimmed down
As I mucked up the first n/s/r window I had just enough to replace it! Luck B”
<O:p</O:p<O:p</O:p

THE PANELS WILL GET WET! CLEAN AFTER
<O:p</O:p
<O:p</O:p
NOTE:Wash hands from grease, wear latex gloves if possible, and keep windows soaked! !!! DO NOT CREASE FILM!!!
If you can do this job in side and out of the wind
<O:p</O:p

Step 1:Clean windows and around surrounds and panels around windows with Johnson’s baby shampoo 2 x caps per 500ml approx in a spray bottle (as this doesn’t leave a film apparently) but if not available just use the lube in kit using a small Kitchen scotch pad like in the pic below give the windows a good scrubbing, then wipe with small wiper blade or scraper in kit then spray again as to remove all particles as these will show up after, cleaner the better KEEP WET
th_P1000936.jpg

Step 2: Clean out side widows with spray as you did the insides, wipe then re-spray as you are going to stick the film to out side to cut to shape.

th_P1000901.jpg

Step 3: Now the film will be separated so you need to know which side, stick a piece of masking tape to both corners and gentle pull and you will see the film separate, one clear side(to be deposed of) and the dark film side of which will be stuck to window.

th_P1000904.jpg

REMEMBER THE FILM WILL BE STUCK TO THE INSIDE
<O:p</O:p

The pic below shows the film stuck to the OUTSIDE window (the spray lube holding it on)
the film cut and ready to be pulled apart facing out
th_P1000906.jpg

NOTE: If you want, get a box ready to stand on the out side so you can look down at the window and you could also use a torch in side as to see the out line of the window clearer outside

th_P1000928.jpg

Step 4: Cut around the black out line of window by about 3mm over, then pull apart and as you do spray, spray, spray.
th_P1000905.jpg

<O:p</O:p
The film is as you would fit to the inside but on outside!!

<O:p</O:pPulling apart the film KEEP WET! As you pull
th_P1000925.jpg

Then carefully pull clear film completely off and spray as you do, take dark film and remove to inside.
th_P1000918.jpg

Step 5: When you have applied the film to inside of very wet window position by hand then start to flatten with scraper in kit (we are using a window scraper first of all.
NOTE:Keep wet and you could wrap a piece of lint/cotton around the plastic scrapper as not to scratch tint keep spraying and keep wet, as you remove all air bubbles, use side to side or down ward movements
Check from out side in for any creases/air bubbles, until you have completed one window.
This is easy for the flat windows

The side tilting windows
<O:p</O:p

The side windows will have to have the pins removed for hinges via the screws to be able to cut out hole and flatten film.
th_P1000899.jpg

NOTE: Let the film dry before refitting or you will twist the film and crease it!!
th_P1000898.jpg

NOTE: If you have any creases use a hot air gun on lowest setting on the film.
Don’t hold the heat on the film too long, other wise you will burn it!!

<O:pTHE BACK WINDOW
<O:p</O:p

Now the easy windows are done it’s on to the curved back window the most trying of all windows
<O:p</O:p

As before spray outside window, stick on film the right way round, cut out and here’s where it gets hard, using a heat gun you need to shrink the film to fit the glass (keep wet), using scraper raped with lint/cloth slowly drag out and shrink excess film.
th_P1000910.jpg

th_P1000911.jpg
th_P1000914.jpg

This is the longest job and seemed to go on for ever; patience is required to slowly shrink film back! Keep wet when scraping

FINISHED

th_P1000933.jpg
th_P1000932.jpg

NOTE: If your windows aren’t clean and free from dirt it will show, be prepared to be annoyed!!
You may find small air bubbles under film.

<O:p</O:p
I hope this helps and is only my experience follow this right up from fitting, please read manufacturer’s instructions fully before starting.

Thank you

On mobile phone so can't see pics too well but looks good.
One thing I would suggest though to any contemplating it, never ever use the green scotchbrite stuff on transparencies , glass or perpsex. if you use them hard enough to be effective you will be causing damage to the surface.
there's no reason why you can't get the surface clean enough with soap or meths .

I will agree with you that any form of abrasion type pad on plastic will scratch.
The kit says that tinting plastic windows is not advisable, polyester films will fail on plastic type windows because of out gassing of the plastic, this gassing will form small bubbles under the film.
Also the plastic usually flexes so the film will come off and not adear correctly.

SORRY THE PICS WERE TO SMALL

Now on a proper on line machine :D

Looks well cool :thumbs which level of filter is it I guess dark ie blocking around 80% ????

cheers

Phewf, that film you've got on the front window needs a bit of help :lol

You have to shrink the film to the window then peel back the clear part and then peel off film and fit it inside

I did wonder

no in all seriousness............with the thinner cheapy film which is the current limit of my experience you wouldnt have been able to do that I wouldnt have thought.

how close is the shape and sizing? how much does it shrink by:confused:

what is the difference in dimmensions of it exterior to interior or is it not enough to worry about

1. This is my first time at fitting film so i cant quate on othe film types

2. When you cut it on the out side window then you leave approx 3/5 mm over the part of window the film needs to go, its difficult to explain in post,
3. the shrinkage is'ant that much on edges unless you apply the heat to that area
4. The dimensions can differ depending on the cuve of the window, you have to allow for this.

Ta :thumb2

Having dont the job:

Do you reckon the sides are best just cut or shrunk ?

Is that DONE (dont) the job?
I think it is, any way, the sides did not have to be shrunk just cut and then fitted; They were the easiest, when I had done two I was well into.

Sorry typo....meant now youve done the job :doh

I think I'll just cut the 4 side ones on mine and shrink the back one :thumb2

:bow  :thumbs  :bow
:clap :clap :clap :clap :clap :clap
