looks good for them that dont want to have one on all the time..

I think it can pull / hold upto 4 tonnes

Looks ok t me :thumbs

im sure it can only pull what the tow hitch is ment for and if you try more you could damage the hitch and the car its on..

1, A 4000 lb winch is 1800kg, for safe recovery you need at twice the vehicle weight, so the this rules out the winch for recovery.

2, The winch mounts on the tow ball, how often would you actually use the winch on the towball, instead of using a tow rope/sling on the tow ball itself.

3, £300 plus vat is very expensive for a chinese 4000lb winch

4, the maximum a tow ball is rated at is 3500Kg, I see they are advertising a uprated 9000lb winch bracket, this is over 4000Kg, not good on your tow ball.
When a towball "pops" off. ( snatching) they are killers.

I know the winch comes in a box, but your could easily make up the winch with all the extras for under £200.

The choice is yours.

A general q about winches, thinking about the "average" front mounted hydraulic winch with steel cable on a swb defender, how long is the cable likely to be? I know its a bot of a how longs a bit of string question but theres a good reason for asking.

If anyone knows Uphill beach at Weston Super Mare they may click what I'm heading towards :lol:lol:lol

thought you was camping at weston..... your not stuck on a beach are you ?

Hell no (not this time...........smacked up my first car in the dunes there though :augie) , a flooded escort and a half submerged Espace were last nights victims.

The reason I was asking about the winch was that a member of the green oval sect was standing next to his polished up swb complete with winch and other kit whilst the poor sods were trying to push the espace out. If he'd had ten metres or more cable he could have helped but didnt.

Its an odd beach there. Stray onto the mud or into the water (or leave your car parked up !!!) you sink, stay above the waterline on the beach and its pretty solid.

I grabbed a couple of pics it was getting dark, i'll post em up once I can get my camera to link to the pc :thumbs

ive driven around cars that were stuck at westurn...

was great fun watching them till i got out and helped..

thats the JOY of a light car with WIDE wheels

Oh yes and i has 6 of them too

i go out with 2 landies quite often.
both well kitted out for everything.

one owner is a complete 8astar0 wont help you or use his kit to help you, he'll pull you out if you use your own rope

the other will spend all day and all night untill its out, and he'll do anything to get you out

i can see both sides of the argument , after all he paid for him to have the kit and if its damaged no one ever replaces it...

i wouldnt be so kitted up if i didnt have to, and just used everyone elses kit...

but when your stuck it does seem a really shiity thing to do

but id stay with either of them to help them ... and now im fully kitted they
both help and share kit

lets face it my recovery kit alone is several hundred to grand alone
theirs is a few grand

Tend to agree. What goes around comes around ;)

Anyway heres the highly polished , immaculatey clean (even down to white highlighting on the tyre walls) swb

And heres the poor sods ( who were actually peeing themselves laughing ) whose car it is, in the water

The tide was rapidly falling at this point and LR man was debating his aproach. whilst he was and once the water had receded past the espace a mate of theirs cam trunling onto the beach, parked past them and walked back to have a look. The beach warden in his toyota pickup got a strap on them and easily puleed it off the beach.

Meanwhile LR man had retired to his cab but couldnt escape the beach because he was hemmed in by the crowds by the entrance

As Paul said, prize twat of this day maybe

ps I actually heard one of our neighbours off the campsite (which is behind the wall behind the LR) slagging of the espace owner because he couldnt understand why he'd switched his hazard warning lights on :doh:doh:doh:doh

He obviously hadnt noticed everything else on the car was in electrical convulsions .
