I was going to get a bumper made, but the way I see it is if you ask me to email you my details and don't get back to me you obviously don't want my business.
So I thought I would mod/make my own, I have the materials and welder sat there so with a bit of time on my hands over Christmas I got cracking.
I strengthened the original bumper to chassis mounts plug welded and welded new plates on, then welded and plug welded 6mm steel to the original bumper brackets. I got myself a rivnut machine for Xmas so I put it to good use with a quick release grill cross brace that I have modded from the original.

I bought a Warn XD9000 winch and Toyota winch tray form ebay which were new unused at a very nice cheap price and modded the tray to fit.

Looks spot on mate
:)

Got any more pics of how the winch mounts to the winch plate ?

Looks well.

And I can't seem to find the time to simply fit my drive belts and a few other prep jobs.

:banghead

Looks real nice, and will certainly do the job, but I would bin the steel wire, too dangerous, Rick

Nice work mate, well done :D

Dude thats an awesome job and your trucks looks awesome :D, was that a commercial when you got it or did you convert it yourself?

Thanks guys :thumb2

The winch mounts to the plate by 4 bolts underneath that go into the base of the winch.
I have thought of using plasma rope but my mate thinks for what I will be using it for it's not worth spending the cash and he said you have to look after the plasma rope. He is one of those people that likes doing these challenge events.

It was a commercial when I bought it, it is a 2001 it had 38k on the clock and paid 1000 for it from my mates old man who had been told he had too many vehicles and the Mrs said something had to go. I couldn't believe my luck.

Your mate's right  plasma does need a bit more attention. Just get yourself a winch blanket instead :thumb2

looks good but it's going to be a right pain respooling steel wire as access to the drum is bad. You only need to clean synthetic rope once in a while.

It takes less than a second to pop the grill off and the drum is right there, shouldn't be a problem at all. I might get some plasma rope, just can't warrant spending £160 plus to use it once in a blue moon.

£125 was the last I bought from ebay, but yes if you are not going to use it often, then a blanket or two will do, as it should not suffer too much damage, but never bring the cable back on its self, like round a tree, see it done too often, I expect to winch at least 5 times minimum on a play day out cos if I am faced with two routes difficult or impossible I will chose the impossible, why do I do it? cos I can, its in my nature, Rick

When you say don't bring it back on it's self you mean I should use a tree sling and shackle?

absolutely, bring the hook round onto the cable and cable will get damaged with a kink always use a strap/sling and shackle, kinder to the tree as well, Rick

Sorry to bring back such an old thread, I hope BonesXU1 see's this :thumb2

I'm in the process of cutting the bumper, I've done the bottom bit but want to know if there's a certain way of measuring where to cut the rest? I don't want to do it by eye, I will 100% mess it up :lol

This is how far I've got

He swapped the bumper for another one then which hides the winch, he sent me a pic that I've not seen on the forum

Maybe just the No plate mount bit was cut out:nenau TBH you will prob need to fit a winch before doing any more cutting due to winches being different sizes depending on make & the winch tray but the shape of the MK3 bumper seems the better option to use to hide a winch than the MK4 one
