You guys are gonna get sick of me soon.

I have another problem with the terrano. As sad as it sounds I'm a stickler for everything working in a car. I can't stand if a bulb goes or if the heaters aren't up to scratch, if one lights dimmer than the other etc etc.

So as the centre interior light needed fixing I sorted that yesterday, and fitted a new heater thermostat, and pulled out the dash clock to see what faulty lights I had. Put it all together again and this morning realised the heater plug isn't lit, the rev counter, petrol gauge and temp gauge don't work now.

I've checked all the fuses, and the plugs in the back of the clock seem ok. So I don't know if I've done something while I had the clock out or when I fitted the thermostat.

Wish I'd leave the car alone somethimes, everytime I sort one thing, something worse happens on the next one.

Any ideas what the problem could be?

Cheers Mark

well if you've yanked the dash out you've answered your own question LOL.

Suggest you remove again, reseat all connectors and bulbs and re-check. If that fails you need to start looking for busted connections.:D

did you try giving the dsh front a good tap? sometimes, my bulbs go out...a good tap, and they come back on.

done that, reseated connections, checked bulbs and give it a good belt, still no joy

Just spent the last couple of hours checking the wiring, connectors, checked continuity in every fuse in the fusebox to make sure they were definately ok, checked continuity on the circuit map at the back of the clock, all thats fine aswell. So where am I going wrong?

The bits that aren't working are the rev counter, petrol gauge, temperature gauge and the coil light. All these are on the left hand side connector of the clock. Is there a relay or a hidden fuse running this connector block?

Are you referring to the gauges or the gauge illumination?
"coil light": can you confirm is this the glow plug indicator?

No not the illumination, the actual needles don't move.

The back light illumination works, the speedo works, the battery and oil light works, the lights at the bottom work (o/d, beam, wd etc) The indicators work.

The coil light (glow plug indicator) doesn't work, neither does the fuel gauge, temp gauge and the rev counter. All these seem to be on the same plug.

Find a suitable earth that is NOT part of the dash wiring, and check:
P28 - switched 12V (IGN ON)
P29 - permanent 12V
P29 - Ground (-VE) (check resistance to ground - should be close to zero.)

If these are correct then you are probably going to be looking for a fault in the dash unit itself. Broken track etc...

Thanks for your help, but what is P28 and P29?

I've just checked the connector block and there's no permanent 12v and when I switch the ignition on theres only one blue and white wire that has any power to it.

P27 should have the permanent 12v supply, see here:
fuse 16 ???
sorry typo... P 27 is perm 12V!

post a pic of the fuse panel, I can hack a bit of Katakana & a little Kanji...

However looks like the diagrams I have don't relate to your vehicle!
Might be someone around with diags for yours?

The model is terrano mistral 95 reg.

Here's the pics, don't know if you can make head nor tail of them

does anybody know where that connectors wiring comes out from the dash to where it wires up. I don't know if it goes directly in to the fuse box or if connects to something else.
