Was cruising back home this morning in my 1995 2.7 TD LWB Terrano when I started to notice it seemed to be 'missing' a bit. As I went on further, the power fell away to the point I could just about crawl back home. From the problem starting to full flow happened within 2 miles.
It was OK at idle and a little bit beyond, but putting your foot down created a lot of whiteish smoke and no power. It was barely driveable - I could get it to about 1200 RPM and managed to get it to 5th using just a tiny bit of throttle, and gently brought her home. Revving at a standstill gave lumpy running, smoke, and not a lot of revs.
Ironically, once it had been standing for a while, I moved it and it seemed to have regained at least some of its power and could rev a bit and even get up a small incline, though I was only moving it round a yard so did not go for any distance or speed, but it certainly felt better for standing. I guess if I went out any distance it would revert back again.
I previously suffered from a dirty micro / banjo filter and cleaned it a few thousand miles back. On the weekend I changed two of the pre heaters which had failed and having suffered lumpy cold starting for the last month or so, it had been starting perfectly.
The fuel filter is probably around 5000 miles or so. The fuel lines were replaced around the same time. The air filter probably needs replacing now though I do clean it regularly with an air line.
Having read around, there are a multitude of potential problems and I was wondering if someone could give me a list of the most likely things to check.
From what I can see I should start to look at the following :
Micro filter
Fuel filter (and corrosion/blockage in the body)
Sticky waste gate (hopefully haven't lost the turbo entirely)
Problems with the springs in the injector pump ?
Sensors ?
This engine does not have a MAF (spent ages looking for the damn thing before I realised it wasn't fitted to this model !)
Any other suggestions gratefully appreciated.
