thinking of getting a cb radio for when we go to jonela`s in france,

i used to have one years ago but lost touch now,

any suggestions as to what to go for :nenau

probably wont leave it in the car all the time and would want a mag mount

Sorry don't know what's good and what isn't in the world of CB but might be worth giving these guys a try as they are not a million miles away. LAM Communications at Hoyland Common Barnsley, give them a Google as they have a web site.

Most important thing is to ensure it has the European CEPT frequencies as the UK frequencies are not legal in France, some radios have both CEPT and UK.

A good bit of advice there!!!!!

I'm pretty sure on the subject of legalities in France, you also have to by law carry 2 disposable breatherlizer kits and a hi viz vest per passenger you have in the car

Can anyone confirm this for me?

been looking at one of these on ebay
TTI-TCB-660-MOBILE-CB-

Yes that's true, and a warning triangle and a complete bulb kit, someone on here mentioned the breathalyser thing might be on hold?

A medi kit aswell?

I wouldn't worry about using the UK channels in france, But yes handy to have the EU (cept) channels too.

Most modern CB radios have both CEPT and UK Channels. So its mainly a matter of choice.
My antenna is a Thunder pole Orbiter, with a 7inch mag base.No way will this come loose on its own.

cheers for all your reply and suggestions,
i`ll have a look on ebay ,
going to get a new one,
been reading briggies thread on cb`s, looks like he`s the man to talk to

Don't forget to turn OFF speed camera warnings on your GPS, if you are stopped they check and issue a large on the spot fine.

I heard about this, my suggestion would be to learn very quickly how to turn it on and off, and have it readily available to turn off :D

Edit - or even sat nab on seat, click click boom.

What do the English police do, to make it difficult for foreign drivers arriving in the UK? The french have all sorts of laws, I thought we were part of a "Common" Market.

What do the French equivalent of the AA say to french drivers when they are planning a trip to England?
"Pretend not to speak English, and the police won't be bothered to take it any further" ...

Apart from a few Polish lorry drivers being booked for long driving hours, which seem to be only checked after the odd crash, what else do foreigners have to look out for?
The information I have to hand is from these police type video programmes repeated on the TV, maybe I am not that well informed:nenau

Any stories out there that appear to target foreigners?

Rant, sort of over...:augie

Your so right... I was taken out by a Polish lorry moving into my lane on a 2 lane section of the M25, and luckily, managed to make him pull over, as he tried to just carry on driving... I have to say, I was so lucky to keep my piece of mind, as it could have been a very bad accident if I had not. He just refused to talk any English, but in the end, the Highway patrol came along, they tend to get twitchy when a V70 is stopping a lorry on a flyover, blocking the hard shoulder and first lane. They have translators on the end of the phone, and we got it sorted... He was over hours, and running late for the ferry/tunnel. Made the Ba$$t4d miss it though... :D Took an age to sort out the insurance as well, as, while we have to have all our documents translated into multiple languages to go abroad, it doesn't work the other way, when they come here, so trying to find out what you are writing down from the paperwork, when he did finally produce it, was really hard.

A few days later, I was doing a job for a recovery company in South Wales, and we were talking about my accident, so they took me down to look at a 40' Polish lorry they had in the yard. It had been involved in an accident, where it had been hit up the rear, but when the police looked it over, they impounded it. The front steering wheels only had 3 of the 10 or 12 bolts on, and when you looked closer, you could see right through the wheel.... There were no brakes, rotors, or callipers on the front wheels... All of the other wheels had a shortage of nuts.. 3 days after it was impounded, they had a call from the police, asking why they had let it go with out police permission... Long story, shortened, it had been involved in a second accident on the M5, and had killed someone... when they looked into it, the company had 4 trucks, all running the same registration documents all in this country, and 3 had been involved in serious accidents.
