I want to add some ground clearance to the Terrano. I have a set of standard 7x15 wheels which I want to put either some aggressive A/T's or full mud tyres on.
I plan to use this setup only when necessary and keep my alloys and road tyres for everyday use.
What are my options?
What sizes to use?
Dont really want to have to cut or trim anywhere if possible.

tyre sizes

if you do a search for tyre size there were a couple of posts running about the subject.

Search done. Just a couple more questions though.

Does anyone have any experience in usind 235x75/15 mud tyres?

Or using 9.5x30 or 10.5x31 on a standard height lwb terrano?

Any comments good or bad + or - appreciated.

235/75 R15's are a standard size, so they'll go on without problems.

30x9.50 R15 is really an equivalent size, you may get a minimal increase in clearance, but maybe only in the region of 1/2 to 3/4 of an inch maxiumum.

31x10.50 R15's will rpobably fit, but you may find that the front's catch on mudflaps etc. Also be aware that there are 2 different widths of steel wheel, early ones were 6", later ones 7" and you'd need a minimum 7" rim to fit 10.50's to.

I run my SWB on 235/75R15 Kumho 834 mud terrains. IMHO any mud terrain will be much better off road than a road biased tyre, surprisingly though most AT's will also cope well except in the extremes of mud. What you need to consider though is that the more extreme the tyre for off road use, the less nice it is going to be on tarmac. The Kumho's i use are OK on tarmac, bit noisier, but no major grip problems in the wet.

Possibly one of the best all round MT's are the Kumho KL71 tyres, hear very few negatives about these tyres and lots of positives. Not used them myself but would cerainly consider them in the future.
