the rubber/gator that is around the 4x4 selector (under central area) has all perished, letting water in. i am trying to find a replacement but not sure what the part is called exactly.

anyone able to help me please?

Must admit I would have called it a gaiter too, maybe with a different spelling though...

Same as above, gear lever gaiter, on mine it's leather, they sell them on ebay, this is the number 230438366644

Hi:)

Thanks for response people. Mine is leather too. but if you lift the leather up, there is a rubber shroud that makes a barrier between the inside of the truck and the road. thats all in bits on mine and letting water in.

seems to be something that comes with the transfer box side of the gear box.

would be something a bit like that ebay item: 330773076718

if you get my meaning,

My T2 is a bit older than yours and the gaiter itself is rubber, but it does have the same (presumably) rubber barrier below the gaiter - when mine got foofed by a cack-handed mechanic whilst fitting a new clutch I got a replacement from cncfabs - might be worth giving him a shout!

Mine doesn't have one, I thought it was just the tdi ones ans not our older td, I also one one as I got water in when playing, good thing I taken the carpets out for such a occasion:sly

took my carpets out today front and back, covered them in soap and spent over an hour jet washing them, super clean now, also removed the old insulation on the underside of carpets, will replace with new type of stuff.

only rolled rear carpet to look at fuel tank area for sender unit, then noticed a huge hole on the floor, and as i kept rolling back the carpet found more holes, looks like years of water spray from the wheels, and water pooling, so all interior is out till its fixed, seats ect in the garage.

will sand, then treat rust with chemicals to stop the reaction from going further, then fiberglass and mesh the damaged areas, then use a stone chip underseal where i can get to, then use a modern insulation to sound proof ect, and put carpets back.

...to think though, only started out as a quick job to look at sender unit. and she only had an mot few months ago, NO way could have all the holes i nthe body gone un-noticed?

If you have a hole in the floor, then you really should look at getting it welded over.. if you intend keeping your truck.
You will find that the back door seal lets water in and this helps the rusting process in that area.
