Well had the truck for just two weeks now and thoroughly enjoying it, covered some 700 miles so far.

The time has come to think about the more sensible things other than where do I put the satnav and what does this button onthe stereo do.

At the moment the truck has Pirelli Scorpion tyres fitted, are these a reasonable tyre choice for mostly road work with the odd trip across soft ground?

I have to try and make sure not to damage the ground I drive on because it is usually local parks or playing fields so don't really want anything that is to aggressive .

cheers

i used scorpions found them exelent tyre i then tried some bf goodrich long trails which were on a par with them i used them both in mud and soft ground so long as you dont get to adventerous youll be ok 4x4 even with semi road tyres lets you get much farther than any car in 2wd!

A more aggresive tyre will get you further on soft grass etc before you start doing any damage but when they do spin you'll rip great big chunks out of the grass where a normal tyre would just spin on the surface.

Where I park both my Mav and my van (Renault Master) I've done far more 'damage' to the surface with the van in this wet weather than I have with the Mav (even in 2wd) cos the MT's grip so well, sure they leave an slight impression but they don't spin unless you're being silly, the van on the other hand has spun wheels getting out even a FWD van with a gret big 2.8TD over the wheels

I'm running Falken at's & find them great on the road & get plenty grip in the wet. I had Bridgestone Dullers on when I bourght it & hated them as I did'nt get much grip on wet roads & on wet grass they would just spin

Hi I've got Pirelli Scorpion AT's and there great on and off road  Been offroad a few times and haven't got stuck. I was going to get BF Goodrich AT's till I got the price!!!!!!
The Pirelli Scorpion AT's cost me £65 each fitted at my local tyre place.

Are yours the road version?

Thanks for the info everyone, thats handy it looks like I can keep these tyres on thats saved a few quid

If this wet weather keeps up it will be sooner rather than later when I will need to use the four wheel drive.

I do a lot of small events where it is difficult to get the lorry in so I use an old Merc van which is well loaded and a trailer mounted childrens ride behind it. Together they gross at 5 tonne and the old van has been known to struggle a bit on a slope even if its dry, you would think 79 horsepower and nearly 300,000 miles on the clock would give it enough power to get out of anywhere

cheers
