My old one had 120+ on it - why are you changing it? Nissan don't consider it a service item unless there is visible thinning to the rollers.

I'd second Terra on that - most chains are usually intended for the life of the engine....200k miles is the norm on most....

thick question

hi all i thought the 27td had gears as opposed to a timing chain

i await the answer and public humiliation

thanks all for the replys, much apprieciated,

the chain was going to be replaced due to the head coming off and new valves going in due to a broken valve!!!!! it was only going to be done as precaution, but my mate even said that i didnt need doing, no wear or tight bits on it, so hopefully, finger, toes and everything else,

i MAY:augie:augie, get the truck back tomorrow, but will wait and see,

thanks again, i really do apprieciate all the help i get and WHEN i get the thing back i will be joining up properly,
all the best,

Hi Don't know if you have changed it or not. £400 seems a bit steep.Don't bother with the kit.I got my spares from the Local Ford agent, they were very helpful. I changed mine at 135'000. The chain was fine but the guides for it snapped off halfway ,hence rattlling badly. Tensioner I renewed anyway. its oil operated.Found it very easy to change and no real problems. I did not drop the sump either as mentioned in the manual. All buttoned up and no leaks. Hope you have it sorted by now.

Regards Swanny

in my experience changing your oil regularly makes a big difference to keeping timing chains healthy
