Hello guys,

I got an "invisible oil leak" somewhere, can't find it for over 2 weeks now.
It's definitely gets worse when I tow trailer.
I washed the engine and sprayed it all over with Brake Cleaner to find out the leak. Front covers, vacuum pump and front oil seals are all fine, as well as rocker cover
Looks like that part on the photo is leaking, or at least getting wet. What is that? Can it leak?

Looks like something is missing ??? Maybe it's the Ip ?? :lol

It's not my engine, just photo from internet. Yes, IP is missing there, but what is that plate?

Oil Cooler

What are these cylinders for? And bolts in them? To connect external oil radiator?

just as a second opinion...

How much oil are you loosing? Are you needing to top it up all the time?
Is it definitely dripping off the bottom of the engine, or just disappearing.

When my turbo was on the way out, it used a lot more oil towing, as the turbo is working harder then, so I was using oil, but there were no leaks to give a clue.

Also dampness on that side of the engine, could be the diesel spill off pipes leaking.

Leak appeared about 1.5 months ago. Front oil seal was replaced and it started leaking noticeably less - probably around 1 teaspoon overnight (on the ground).

Oil consumption under load is still huge - probably around 5l per 250 mile trip with 1ton trailer. At this load oil was dripping approx. 1 drop per second, may be more.

Yes, there is oil in air system - intercooler is wet from inside and when removed, you can see turbo throwing oil mist up in the air. whether it comes from turbo or oil sump - I don't know. I removed and inspected turbo about 6 months ago, everything was OK.

It's definitely not fuel - I have custom installed heated plastic fuel lines and know every inch there. It's definitely black motor oil, appears even after engine cleaning with Brake Cleaner.

My main concern at the moment is not turbo, but oil on the driveway.

The oil in the intercooler is poss from the breather system as the valve in the oil trap can get iffy & send huge amounts of hot oil mist into the induction pipe before the turbo. As for you leak i'm stuck never known one leak from around that area unless it's been a shot spill pipe & diesel has ran down the side & back of the engine:augie

Could not find the leak, but found 2 possible solutions:

1. Foot powder spray (£4 per 100g) or baby talc. Cover engine to see where oil leak appears.
2. Oil leak detector from ebay - £12. Oil based fluorescent dye added to the oil, and then with UV torch see where motor oil is leaking.

check your clutch thread, may have answered both your problems...either way you may have to take out the gearbox.
