So what did you pass your test in and what have you owned or driven
regularly since.

My first car which I bought to pass my test in after my mum bought auto
Maestro was a ford escort mk2 estate on an ex miitary y reg despite being
a '76. Mum also had a w reg escort estate mk 2 which I drove on
provisional until the Maestro was purchased.

Then after passing traded my rot box for 1.3 escort mk ghia 4 door.
Mum then upgraded to a newer Maestro auto, so traded in my ghia
and cascaded the first maestro to me. yep 19 yr old student with
a 4yr old maestro, pals must have thought i was well off, yep in debt
buying it off mum!

then got my rangey at 21, though was off road with rotten chassis
more than it was on but it was mine, all mine, and gave lease/purchase
back to mum who traded the older maestro for a vw transporter mk4
camper. With rangey off road in repair the camper became my prefered
vehicle and kept me trucking.

left home and married, mrs had a fiat 127, the rangie sold for scrap
though saw it few years later on road.

we bought a sierra 2.0 gl, which was rotten so it gained a much
newer shell with running gear transferred to then be scraped after
a coming to gether with a tram! during this period i drove the 127
more than mrs, which suited me as got her into bigger cars and
away from the attitude of i cant drive this only happy with say a
fiesta learnt in....the 127 went for scrap/banger racing!

our 3rd sierra 1.8lx served us about 3 years then a daewoo nubira
aquired as higher kerb to tow a bigger caravan. 4 yrs sterling service
sold to a work mate as got more than as a trade in against the t2.

t2 still with us 4 yrs later and another 37k on clock. no finance on
it and stll best truck for the money ploughed its replacement cash
into the caravan.

after passing test drove a mk1 cortina 1500, then several land rovers, cortina 1600e over the years bought and traded 10 lotus cortinas, i wish i had put a couple in storage now, 3 mk1's and 7 mk2's a couple of 3.0lt capri's, sierra sapphire, 2 discovery's, transit camper, nissan t2. and loads more i bought to sell on. :doh

VW Passat estate
Toyota Celica MkII

My first car was an old Transit ex bakery van.

Had many vans since then including a twin wheel 3.0L V6 which I fitted to a Scimitar GTE gear box and modified it so I had over drive in all forward gears... an 8 speed box :D:D

Then there was the Volvo 260 that I fitted a Rover 3.5 V8 in that was from an old SD1.... fitted it complete with front sub frame, the front track was 4" wider than the rear, a quick trim with an angle grinder sorted the arches out :D Painted it Matt Black and fitted a Bedford TK front bumper and cross hairs in the windscreen.... nobody pull out in front of this baby :thumbs

Still got a Lada Niva that I play in the mud with now and then

various other Mk1 and Mk2 escorts rally cars and road cars too many to remeber

Over the years through motorsport I've had the chance to drive a good number of rally cars on the road. Minis, Cortina Mk1 1500GT, Mk1 & 2 Escorts including a few fully house Group 4 cars and 1 that cost £120K, that was built where I was working at the time, wide track 2.0L nova. Plymouth Barracuda with 330bhp, Gp N scoobies and Evo. 205 GTis. Imp, There'll be more but can't remember.

Got to drive a Scooby WRX Sti PPP S11 at Prodrices test track once, not sure how quick I went but ran out of th and was in 6th for a while.

Best of all got to navigate on Rally Eifel in a proper Lancia Stratos Rally car - if you don't know what one is google it and shame on you.

Pased my test in 1981.
Started out with a mini... had 9 of them since.
Ford escort mk1, 2, 3.. about 8 + of them. (Best one was my mk2 RS2000 Custom) :thumb2
Ford cortina's mk3's about 10 of them.
Ford anglia van..1off.
3 Landrovers. series 1 +2.
2 Porsche's (God I miss them):sly
2 Toyota mr2's.
2 Mav's
1 Volvo.
And alot I cant put here.
Those are not in order..:augie

Started learning in my dad's MK1 Escort which I thought was a great motor until the bonnet buckled due to strut coming through inner wing.
Then he bought a mini which was great fun, then he spoilt the fun of driving by buying a Lada:eek: Don't ask me why but he got an MG Metro which was ACE!!!!!! I felt like a real boy racer.
Then started on the wife to be's Chevette, then on to a Mk2 950 pop Festa.
After that came my first car (on the reg docs) a 1.4 Astra which I loved. Then along came a 1.8 diesel Orion which being a ford was a heap and soon got wrote off by a Twoker.
With the insurance and a bit of finance I bought a N reg Primera which was a real nice car and then in 2002 along came my other woman as the wife refers to the Terrano:thumbs.
In the mean time I bought wife a K reg Polo which on the whole wasn't a bad shopping trolley and then due to work 2 1/2 years a go we made a huge mistake and bought a Scenic:doh boy this car has a lot to answer for. Currently the Scenic has nasty messages coming from the ECU saying Turbo Pressure System. Then the wipers keep stopping in heavy rain and now to top is all off the electronic dash has started to stop working which is a £500 repair. there's stories on the net and confirmed by a renault dealer of your mileage increasing by thounds of miles each time the dash goes out. Can't afford to keep the Scenic and can't afford to sell so wife can have the Scenic and I'll have my truck back thank you.:clap:clap

My first car was a Mk2 Escort estate, followed by an Alfa Romeo Sprint Green Cloverleaf 1.5, that I wished I kept. This was followed by a Vauxhall Chevette van and then a Maestro van that I did 170k in and hardly spent a penny on, the cheapest vehicle I have ever owned, but the body fell off. Next came a Nissan Sunny that blew up closely followed by a Montego that again like the previous British built Austin rusted out. Then came a VW Passat I.8 GT great car when the central locking would let me in. Then the first Lwb Terrano followed by my present one. Also used the wife’s cars if I really needed to these have include a Rover Metro that didn’t rust out!! A Toyota yaris and the present Citroen C2.

I passed a motorcycle test on a Lambretta LI125 scooter (in the 60's when they were cheap - paid £45 for it). I cannot remember about the car test - it was a driving school car.

In pretty much the order in which I had them:

Lambretta LI125 scooter
Hillman Super Minx 1600
Hillman Imp 875
Hillman Minx 1600
Hillman Imp 875
Volkswagen Beetle 1200
Vauxhall Viva 1300
Vauxhall Cavalier 1600

All up to here were ancient when I bought them and falling to pieces when I got rid. All those following were either new or less than two years old when I acquired them.

Austin Montego 2.0 Auto
Peugeot 405 1.9 petrol (company car)
Peugeot 405 1.9 TD estate (company car)
Peugeot 406 2.0 petrol (company car)
Isuzu Trooper Citation 3.0D LWB
Nissan Patrol 3.0D SVE

As a road car, the best by a mile was the Peugeot 406. The worst was probably the Vauxhall Cavalier (due to decrepitude, not inherent lack of talent). It also used the most engine oil - half a gallon on a trip from Liverpool from Blackburn (most of it leaked). The slowest was the Beetle or maybe the scooter (but not by much). The most fun was probably the first Hillman Imp I had. Amazing engine - would do nearly 8000 rpm!!! Thirstiest - the Patrol, 25mpg on a good day, as little as 17mpg towing a caravan.

The best caravan tug is a close call. The Trooper or Patrol - haven't made my mind up. Best offroad - the Patrol without any doubt.

Cheers
Andrew

have to agree about the pug 406, may father has a 2.0? common rail estate and its
