Welsh newbie with anti-roll bar link arm problem says 'Hello'.

Hi Guys,

Greetings from sunny South Wales! I'm new to this forum, currently driving a 02 plate Nissan Terrano 2 SVE that I've owned for nearly 3 years. Great to drive on and off road, with plenty of oomph.

An issue that I've recently been encountering recently that is really flummoxing me. I've been having to frequently change the front anti-roll bar link arms including bushes due to them becoming knackered. 3 times I've replaced them with regular motor factor parts and 3 weeks ago forking out at my local Nissan parts centre for genuine parts. I have noticed today that the nearside link seems to be missing it's top bushes and 'knocking' as I drive over speed humps. The truck is never seriously off roaded, and has not been off road since the new anti-roll bar links were fitted.

Please help as I am very frustrated!

I can only assume you have fitted them incorrectly, cos theres nothing I can think of that would cause that otherwise.

As Colin says, tell us where you are and one of us could have a look?

I am in Newport, but willing to travel. The links and bushes have been fitted by a mechanic that I have used for quite a while and have had no previous issues with. A fresh approach to the problem with your kind offer may be just the tonic.

Cracking advice and offers so far Chaps,

May have to have a stern word with my mechanic, or dust off my overalls. The original links were changed by my 'tame mech' and haven't been the same since. I don't understand how they can be incorrecly fitted. I think that I will wait for Lacroupade and Extreme 4x4 to lend their expertise.

Just had a look at the workshop download, I assume the fix is the extra bits that got fitted when replacing the links ? I haven't got bump stops, but at least I know what that rusty metal patch was on the wishbone. Thought someone had welded it on :doh

You know, they only check the bushes on the MOT ? So if they're not there they can't check them. My old mazda had 3 out of 4 arb link bushes missing and it failed on the remaining one being perished

incorrect. but obviously dependent on who you take it to

it'll drive nice with all the dits in the right place and prevent wear on more expensive parts. trust me i've tried it with just enough to keep it drivable and it dont last very long at all . before you get big repair billls

I've got the bump-stops on the wishbones, but the rubbers above the wishbones (on the nearside link) is missing causing a 'knocking' when going over speed humps, pot holes (lots around here). A bit strange as I was having the previous problems with the offside. Thanks Extreme, soft bushes it is then.

ok well you need to clean off the old jagged edges where the old drop links pulled there way through. (this is the important bit )

then depending on how bad the holes are you put your drop link on and starting from the top

now if you have a really big hole in the wishbone use thicker washers either side of the wishbone

Understand that Extreme....but....The drop link has not snapped, just the top rubbers missing. I will check the holes through the wishbone as when they have previously failed possibly elongating the holes (as happened to the offside). Once that I have finished work, I will pay my £10, fully join the club and pm you for some more info. May possibly take you up on your kind offer and journey to deepest Neath.
