Anyone replaced their water pump on a tdi?

Just wondering how big a job it is, after replacing the wax stat afew weeks ago our's as steated to leak.

Its a piece of cake, Colin is one of many who have done it a couple of times. Can be done without even removing the rad if you are careful.

got my new water pump at a local motor factors first place wanted £180 i walked out second place same part number £85

took about an hour havent done one on this model car before i found it easier to remove the rad to give loads of access i didnt drain he engine just popped the hoses off the rad and let it drain out filed up with 5 litres of anti free and let all the air out from the rad cap

job done

takes a couple of hours to do.much easier to take the rad out.
prices range from about 60 quid upwards.there are also 2 different size viscous units one is 135mm across the fan mounting holes and one is 143mm.
got mine from milners for just over 60 quid.mine was the 143mm one.
the other is about 85 quid.:thumbs

did mine a coupla months ago... not too bad a job but not done that sorta thing for years.... took me a few hours and didnt take the rad out but woulda been easier to remove it for clearance.... hardest bit was cleaning up the block facing for the new pump lol Like everyone has said it is good old fashion spannering :clap

Hi guys,I have developed a very small but very annoying water leak on my T2 this week.It is a small drip and after having a really good look I can not pin point exactly where it is coming from.

If the water pumps delvelop's a leak,is it usually a small drip or larger ?

I have checked all the pipes for condition and security they all seem fine:nenau

it seems to be on the block side somewhere,ie.not the rad.

does any one think rad weld is an option,I have never used it as I always considered it a bit gash.

often these water pumps develop a very small hardly noticeable drip, and usually when up to running temperature.

If its the water pump you may need to take the bash plate off the front underneath and then look up with a torch... mine was running off the bottom of the pump (hence unable to see anything from above) and dripping off a small bolt onto the bottom pulley area, then off the front of the sump. Worth checking the thermostat housing and the 2 heater pipes where they go onto the head by the thermostat as they can leak and it runs down the front and is hard to see

This is what ours did, couldn't see where the water was coming from till I removed the pump, the water was coming from the back of the pully.

Yeah this sounds exactly the same,I will have a proper look on the weekend and take off the plate mentioned to get right in there.

The drip comes from a build up on the front of the sump as mentioned.And did I read that a pump is around 65-80 quid.Another little job to do soon !
