Water in passenger footwell

Thought I'd cured the leak which is letting water into footwell but no such luck.
Have removed all carpeting and sound insulation in that area to get a good view.
Hosepipe test shows leakage happens when water is sprayed onto screen area.
Water enters at lower part of firewall where it seems to be double skinned. It seeps through seams / joints into footwell.
I now need to remove the grid (air intake) in front of the screen to check drains etc. There seems to be only a few plastic rivet type retainers holding it in place. I'm a bit timid about spoiling the seal between grid and glass.
Would appreciate hints tips and warnings etc. about removing wipers and vent grid. :smile:

Never done the job myself but I have just had a new windscreen and the guy's were done very quickly just take your time if it's stuck prize off gently don't rush and you could even get some black mastic to help reseal it afterwards. sorry if it's not much help but I bet some one will be along shortly with better help.

Can't remember exactly but on the passengerside below the windscreen grill there is a cavity that air flows through to the heater box. In this cavity there is some kind of oblong shaped panel that leaks, remove the panel and seal with some kind of silicone sealer and put the panel back. The best sealer I know of for this is called Sicaflex (think thats the spelling) that you should be able to get from motor factors. Hummingbird may be able to reccomend a sealer as that his line of work. If you search thrpough past topics you will find mention of this particular problem.

hope that is your cure, i had both foot wells flooded and took off wipers and trim for nothing, turned out it was creeping in under door strips and panel in front of doors (where bonnet release is). due to cavity behind mudflaps being so full of soil and muck that water wasnt draining thru on route from the wing areas.

the drain holes behind the flaps were blocked by the crud, poking them with a wire on face of it seemed to let moisture out but it was only a fraction of what was lurking in there really.

Sikaflex, Tiger seal, etc etc, its all polyurethane sealant just ask for that at any motor factors/accessory shop or as Dinky says caravan place, its all pretty much as good as each other. Word of warning though. Wear gloves its terrible to get off your fingers and only us it in places you don't want to take apart again as its very difficult to get stuff art thats been put together with it. If you need to get it apart again later use RTV silicon sealant (not bathroom or kitchen silicon) that won't rot your paintwork, but do give any paint a good clean with meths first and it will adhere better.

Thanks for all the help everyone.
I have had the wipers and screen grid off and removed lots of rotting leaves etc; resealed the panel Jim T mentioned (the sealing was very poor) and checked all drains for sunroof and heater enclosure.
Now the temp has dropped too low to do any more leak chasing, too many icicles 8) !
Not hoping for rain but when it does arrive I now have plenty of sealants and clues, all as suggested by members and feel confident that Canute will not have the monopoly on holding back the waters. :wink:

Your lucky when my passenger foot well flooded it was the heater matrix and what a job that is.
