I know how you feel.

Most common:
1) Under the plastic trim at bottom of windscreen are 2 covers for the wiper motors. Remove (5 screws) Put some sealer round a refit.
2) Back of engine bay where the bulkhead meets the inner wing is a common area for rot and to no longer be sealed. Pull your footwell carpets back and the sound deadening stuff and poor a bottle of water over the bullkhead and see if it finds its way in.
3) The black plastic trim on the edge of the boot floor/carpet as you open the tailgate. Remove & put a load of sealer all around it and then refit and wipe away the squished excess to leave a nice neat bead.
4) Open front doors and look in the gap of the wings. Probably be full of crud. If so there is a drain hole there that will be blocked. Swill it out with the hose and a stick.

most common is a blocked sunroof drain.
open the door and have a look down at the bottom near the mudflap.crap gets behind the mud flap and blocks the drain hole.i poked most of the crap out with a piece of wire then hosed it out afterwards.

I think you could be right as the black trim was wet . how do you take the carpet out to dry ? as it is really soak . looking at it now the windows are all covered in condensation

Rear carpet is easy. Remove back seats and it will pull out. The Green underlay is minging.

I had a leak and it was coming from the roof rail mounts on the roof. Hope you find it pal :thumb2

while the seat belt mounts are still good, get in there and check for rust, inside and out, this is a very very common severe rust point, if you had a long bar and could not turn the bolts then says your mounts are good, but you will have fractured the underseal, and water will get in so sort it now, Rick

Had to do the same on mine. Actually cutting the carpet makes more sense as you can remove it in seconds rather than removing the bolts which are a git.

Can now take it out if I am going to be carrying anything messy (like the kids;)).
