we hope to do this over 2 days with camping somewhere. routes and stuff to be discussed on this thread

remember guys we got an audience this time... so none of this :stupid

any info or ideas appreciated

I'll have a look on Trailwise and see if theres anything there we can try - at the moment the obvious thing is as originally suggested, Banwen/Sarn on first day, then head north for an overnight stop somewhere, then Strata next day with whatever else we can find...Pete was looking at beachy campsites I think, worst case if there aren't too may of us, we can camp at my place but lets see...

i think banwen is too rough for most , i dont think its worth going there.

we could do with finding some nice stuff like sarn or strata but other ones too
you got to remember the sarn is about as rough as you will want to do in your truck.
and pete is coming so we dont want to give him reason to fall over again

Theres lots of nice lanes just North of Strata around Nant-y-Moch, nice place to wild camp too.

Thanks Ex I womt be able to make it but I'll work on some lanes for you:thumb2

Here you go :)

SN696389

SN 783401

SN 787395

SN 841414

SN 919469

SN 826754

I have driven all the above and they are suitable for standard Terranos/Mavs

If you did these on day 1 then upto here SN 724828 for a spot of wild camping on the lake shore.

Next day, from SN 724828 to SN 688853

SN 694873 to SN 736884 will need to exercise caution in places due to washouts

SN717841 to SN 716 834 to SN 685825

SN 701828 to SN 709837

SN 708839 to SN 701827

All checked out on TrailWise 06-04-09

You could then go to northern end of Strata and drive it south.

great thanks nathan

i will ask paul to sort out a map that we can understand , but it looks like a busy weekend and good conditions for our trucks.
water front camping too... it sounds just the ticket

thanks a lot for putting so much time into this for us, your a star:thumbs:bow

was kinda hoping paul would look into this for us . ive tried on my map today but i recon im dyslexic in maps and the markings
multimap ordinance survey is good but i get confused if there is 2 lanes going in different directions or how far the lanes extend.
copied a few on to my map at home though

Rendezvous

Have you got a rendezvous point for me to meet you so I can book our b&b for the Satdy night yet chaps ?

as soon as paul gets on he will sort it.... he's the map man.
he went to wigan today to collect some bits. but not been on yet.

now as im sure most of us could get to wigan without a map or electronic device .... im kind of concerned hes taken so long
as he 's got
sat nav and maps and lappy in his truck...
worrying as hes the map man ???:doh

wigan m6 between manchester and blackpool but on the right of m6
and i cant read maps

Maybe he found a little "play" area at one of the services:sly

Dadba

Lets get organised shall we! LOL

Although we haven't worked out routes yet, I suspect Sat will be around Sarn area, in Extremes territory and nearby, while Sunday would be Strata Florida area. That would put my neck of the woods about equidistant from the two general locations.....25 miles down to Extremes gaff near sarn, and 25 miles north to Strata.....that puts this place halfway (six miles up the road from me, english landlord, food is OK, we eat there fairly often).

But pricey though compared to B&B (although I don't know what the going rate is these days? last time I stayed in one you had to wazz in the sink during the night!) but at 56 quid for two, with en-suite, and in a great location in a very small village with a recently-opened tea room if you are bringing company (!) its ideal for a 'romantic' weekend away!

That way the two herberts could camp in my field by the river if they were so inclined?

As to rendezvous, well we can advise that beforehand, but what direction would you be approaching from? Might be we could do things the other way around for example, Strata and any other routes up there on the Saturday, including a Llanddewi Brefi visit if you're feeling gay (!), culminating in sightseeing on the journey back round Llyn Briane down to Rhandirmwyn, then on south on the Sunday.....entirely flexible.

And just so we are clear, this is a fortnight this Saturday isn't it, i.e. not the weekend after Easter but the next one...(thus leaving the post-Easter one free for recce/planning if required!)

Just one point on this, folks ..........

The data on Trailwise is in no way official or authoritative and is not necessarily up to date. It is simply as it was entered (or not) by its users - so you take it as you find it and the responsibility is yours for verifying whether it is correct or not before using it for any purpose at all.

There is no army of Trailwise administrators entering and verifying data. It would be nice if that were the case but there's only really a few brain dead loons doing what they can in the time they have free. This is usually little more than helping users with problems and backing up the data to ensure that it is secure.

If you do go out on a laning trip, it would be nice if you were to update Trailwise with user evidence and any new information you have about the lanes. This is the only way that Trailwise will improve and become the resource that we all want it to be.

Have fun in Wales

good point Andrew - we'll try and do just that. Thanks

Agreed that TrailWise isn't authorative but its a good place to start if not able to get ot the county offices in Aberaeron, for example, which are only open for viewing the DM asnd LOS limited times.

I emailed them for details on some tracks and this is the reply I got.

Dear Mr Jones

I refer to your e mail and reiterate that the Highway Register is available for inspection at County Hall Aberaeron free of charge.

The availability times to view the register are between 10.30 - 12.00 and 2.00 - 3.30 Monday to Friday. You are advised to telephone (01545 572428) to arrange an appointment.

Should you require a formal response there is a charge of £15 per enquiry, and your written enquiry should be addressed to Director of Highways Property and Works, Cyngor Sir Ceredigion, County Hall, Market Street, Aberaeron SA46 0AT. (Please mark for the attention of Mrs Amy Jones)

Regards

Amy Jones

Helpful..........................NOT!

TrailWise can also be useful to see if a teack is suitable for shiney's standard etc.
I've noticed that there seems to be more 'user content' on TrailWise than there was in the later days of Wayfinder. If we try to add to the user evidence after we've driven the lanes it'd be good.:)
