volvo 740 project

hi guys, i found this volvo 740 at a fiend of my dad's farm 'where i keep my scrap SWB', i didn't know it existed until all the bushes hiding it were cut away, dad says it's been un-moved since 2002, the story with it is, the farm owners, bought a new ford back in 2002 and parked the volvo here and it's never moved since, im wondering if the people will sell me it, as ive always wanted a restoration project, i know it'll need a full fluid change and brakes re built, anyone got any advice on restoring cars? ive always had i thing for old volvo bricks:lol

Go for it. These things are tough as old boots. Fuel pump relays can be a problem though - especially if it's been sitting for ten years I suspect!

You might well find that the brake calipers have all seized up, but that's not too much trouble really. Either free them up or replace them. The only downside is that you can buy fully working 740 saloons for a few hundred quid...

well, if you are happy for this sort of car to be a restoration project, then go for it, but you can pick them up off ebay fairly cheap, so id have a good think about how much its going to cost you just to get it going before buying it. Try get them to give it you for the cost of moving it, i.e. you pay them nothing and get it out of their way. Thatll make it a worthwhile restoration project!

I think after a fluid change, draining the old fuel and charging the battery itll run probably, brakes almost certainly be seized but you never know, other than that itll probably scrub up nice.

Im not sure id be bothered about such a big heavy beast like this, not in terms of restoring it, but if you can get it for nowt then its well worth it!

just got off the phone with the owners, they don't want to sell it as they are very attached to it BUT.... i'm NOT put off:sly, i still want to get a restoration project, any one know of any very cheap cars?

I hate idiots like that. There are plenty of them. "Ooh, I'm going to restore it one day." Yeah, good luck with that as by the time they get around to it, they'll need a dustpan and brush to scoop it up. Or as you say, so attached to it that they'll let it just fall apart. Nice work!
